Hello guys.
After reading some history about vintage english pipe brands, I decided to look for a Charatan Pipe, preferably Rueben era.
I would like to get a classic straight billiard.
(Preferably size 3 or 4)

On what sites would you advise to look for one? What would be an average price?

Looked on Ebay, and there is not much of it.

Alternatively a Pre Transition Barling with same parameters interests me too.

"I would like to get a classic straight billiard."

And that's going to be tough, not many of the shape seen in the estate world, although they were made. See page 10,

:)

Thats interesting!
I also noticed that.
Wondering why.
I would love to get the medium biliard.

On a side note, which of the modern english pipe makers would compare to Charatan in style and quality?

Cheating on my answer...James Upshall.

James Upshall - Pipedia - https://pipedia.org/wiki/James_Upshall

Then again, I wouldn't mind a pipe from Chris Askwith.

Askwith Pipes Hand Made in England - http://askwithpipes.com/index.html

Also worth looking at Blakemar. Never smoked one, but have heard good things about them.

Thank you so much for this recommendation!
It really seems like a worthy succesor, considering the fact, that the owner was taught by Charatan.

I would suggest to look to older Comoy pipes. Great price and I have yet to find one that smokes bad.
Comoys are also on my list ;)
But as I understand Chartan and Barling were considered of higher tier than Comoy?
