Good evening gentlemen,
I discovered a GBD pipe on eBay this afternoon and the model name caught my eye... I've recently been thinking about picking up a GBD and so it seemed like Kismet. However, I cannot find a single thing about this model. Nor have I seen a single GBD stem with the medallion oriented across the stem rather than along it.
I've scoured most of the usual sources: piped, pipephil.eu, etc. I went to http://www.perardua.net/pipes/GBDlines.html but wasn't able to find anything.
full

I can also link the eBay listing if you'd like.
Thank you for your knowledge, time and help!

Hi, and welcome to the forums! I'm sure you'll find lots of opinions and information here.

I know this seller as I recognize the fabric he photographs some of his pipes on. I've bought a few pipes from him and he has always priced his pipes fairly, and shows plenty of pics. I'll admit I'm no GBD specialist, but I have a few, and they are all great smokers. I'm not familiar with this particular GBD pipe, but I believe that the metal rondel was discontinued after 1981. So it's got a little age on it, and some nice grain to be sure. I have no idea how he came up with that price though, as it seems to be quite high for an unknown style that also has a couple of fills on the bottom of the bowl. Personally I think you could do better. But on the other hand with the name being the same as yours, if you really like it, make him an offer on it. I don't know how low he'll go but it doesn't hurt to try.

Good luck....

Sorry, I should have been clearer. It's the alignment of the rondel on the stem that has me stymied not the location. Every picture I have seen of the GBD stem rondel has it aligned so that the "G" is closest to the bowl and the "D" closest to the tip (the same way that it is aligned on the stummel in the picture). I've never seen one where the GBD reads across the stem, perpendicular to it.

You are right, on flat-blade style stems, the brass rondell usually oriented to run North to South like this one:

I've never seen a Gulliver stamped pipe. Post the Ebay link or the COM (country of manufacture) stamp, that would be interesting. From that picture, it should restore nicely.

I don't see any country of manufacture mark.
