Hey everybody,
I just bought a tin of McClelland’s Turkish Woods, the seller told me it was from 1990 but the code on the bottom of the tin is only three digits (See the photos). Does anyone know if they were using a different number system then? Or can anyone help me ID this tin?
Thanks all!

IIRC Turkish Woods was a Levin Pipe International Blend that was not taken into McClelland after Barry Levin passed. The 1990s would be accurate. Your photos don't show (a common problem on this forum). Is it possible that three of the numbers have been worn away?

Thanks for fixing the picture Dmcmtk! How do I get them up right next time?
Mikestanley It doesn’t seem like they were worn away as much as they were never there, but it’s hard to tell, can you see Dmcmtk’s re post with the photos?

Bluegrassbrian, haven’t opened it yet!
Redglow, lol! I’ll give that a try, though I’ve heard it’s rude to ask someone their age on the first date!

Bluegrassbrian, I realize I didn’t fully answer your question!
Though I haven’t opened it according to an old McClelland brochure it does contain Latakia and is described as “Turkish Woods flake - maturing naturally sweet lemon and orange Virginia’s with the finest, delicately spicy Oriental leaf and smokey Latakia allows the tobaccos in this rich cake mixture to develop an added measure of unity. This full oriental flake tobacco, intentionally dense for smoking outdoors is easily rubbed out to suit any occasion.”

Many of the very early Levin tins were dated with the year and month. 1990 is how I would date it.
Also, Tad Gage once reviewed a lot of the old Levin blends - some of which were limited runs and/or simply not on TRC. I use Tad's info a lot whenever I get in old LPI blends that I am not familiar with. Here's a link which provides his info on Turkish Woods as well as many others - https://www.scribd.com/document/72495121/Booklet-Levin-Pipes-International-1993

PipeStud, thanks for the info and the great link, that is indeed a lot of great info on the LPI blends! I'll be opening the tin tonight to compare!
Going off what you said am I right to assume this tin was produced in March of 1990, 903 = {90} Year {3} Month?
Thanks again for your help!
