Pictures tend to show off how a person lives. And they say a pictures worth a thousand words. Well here's my two cents.
My pipe porn for those who are into it.

Fill only affects the appearance...while I really hate fill in a pipe...if you find one that is a good smoker, hang on to it...that is what you bought it for...smoking.

We ave had the discussion many time over a pipes looks vs smoking function. I'll take function. Some of my pipes with fill, scratched finishes etc are my best smokes. Let's not even bring old corn cobs into this. Smoke it and enjoy!

I'm a romantic, or an eccentric, or ... I've been called worse ... and I enjoy an elegant flaw-free pipe, no fibbing about that ... but with a pipe you like visually despite its flaws, and that is a fine smoke nearly every time, I think the flaws make it distinct and personal. The Japanese meditate on the irregularities of their pottery in the tea ceremony, considering the variations attributes rather than mistakes. I don't want a flaw in everything, but I get that. These are good pipes, well used, and they are pleasing to see. Take the wider view.

If a pipe doesn't please my eye and fit my fist ... it can't provide a satisfying smoke. Period! End of story!
I rarely look at pictures of pipes. They're not mine, I won't be smoking them so, they really are of no interest. But, I'm not a collector, not in competition with other smokers. If someone asks for an opinion I might offer up mine. Rarely though, I have no idea why my opinion of another person's pipe would matter or be of interest.

That's interesting Warren. It's funny how different everyone can be, regarding the same hobby.
Part of the reason I don't buy pipes that are shiny, fancy, etc. I just know what it will end up looking like in the end. Same idea with cars for me. I like looking at the fancy cars, but would never buy a garage queen. The thought of it getting scratched, rusty or otherwise changed, just hurts to think about.

Wow, 9,000 words! :)
Thanks. It's good how there are different strokes for different folks. One of my best smoking pipes is a bent Pete Aran, with more pits than Robert Redford's face, but I smoke it at least once a week. But I hate fills, and few pipes I treasure have them. (or at least are visible)

I should add, when someone such as Jesse, among a few others, posts history lessons, I'm all eyes. I'm always up for learning about pipe history. Georged's "how to's" are also fascinating even though I have no interest in rehabing. I enjoy watching a craftsman, any craft, at work (reasonable quality video is required though). I find such exhilarating.

Since didi is a mod, damn your pipe is gorgeous. That rim is in impeccable shape.
warren, I really enjoy pipe porn pictures from the members here. I wish Peck were around more as his collection is incredible. I enjoy looking at pipes that I'll never own. People should never be shy of posting their pipes, even 50 dollar pipes can be cool looking.

didimauw: For me, smoking is much more serious than a hobby. I think that is one of the defining differences in the membership. The different approaches to the pipe are what make this board what it is, endlessly entertaining.

I always enjoy pictures of the pipes folks have acquired. But I no longer look for nicely grained beauties since I can never bring myself to smoke them. Give me a rusticated or lightly sandblasted billiard and I'm happy. Now as for Didi's twist, he adds a nice counterbalance, but that cake encrusted chamber is something one should keep to himself!!

Warren, I like to use the term hobby sometimes. It sounds better than "straight up addiction".
But in all reality, it's a life style.
Harris, that's correct. My rim is perfect, and beautiful. Good answer.

Love your pipe. I've got the same one in a little different finish - Palermo it's called. I purchased it early on as a starter pipe because of the price point and since it's a great smoker, I still use it on a regular basis. Just recently grabbed a Savinelli 202 because I like this one so much.
