Well screwed the pooch on this one. A couple of weeks ago I found a couple of Medico Pipes. I did the cotton pad and alcohol them. The first one a Franks came out good just have to clean up the outside. The second one is another story. after letting the pipe sit for several days to dry out from the alcohol. I found the stem is stuck and will not come out. It smokes ok but it is going to be a bear to keep it clean.

It doesn't always work, but try sticking it in the freezer for a few hours and then see if you can remove the stem. Other than that, I only use 151 proof grain alcohol and course salt in the bowl, but I always remove the stem first.

EDIT: I see that rsuninv gave you the same advice on the freezer.

The only caveat I'd add to the freezer method is that the cold does make vulcanite brittle. I've had stems shatter in my hands. Just watch your grip and how you apply torque.
