Just got out in the garage today with the idea that I was going to sit my ass in a chair and make a few new tampers. When I moved this pile of pine left over from building my dad a side table for Christmas, I thought about those little collapsible single pipe stands you can buy for just a few bucks, but decided to make my own. It's always nice to learn new skills and methods. So I made a new pipe stand today.

I like it a lot and might make a few more. I have plenty of pine left. The first one took me about 5 hours only because...hey,that whole hinge thing and the angles and the cut away portions... that takes time to get right...more like, it was a bitch to get right. The next ones ought to go a little quicker.

Yeah, that is the first thing I thought. How did he accomplish the hinge stem, and for it to not flop too far. Looks like you figured it out. Bravo bud.

Nice work! I love a project that is challenging and comes together in the end. Bet your still admiring it! Does the hinge pin run all the way through?

Thanks fellas! Challenging is definitely the best when it comes together like it should!
The hinge on this one is just a couple 7/8" finish nails that I hammered into place after pre-drilling a hole in the edges and into the lid. I thought about making it go all the way through on my next one, maybe. I just didn't have anything long enough to make it from one side to the other.
It appears to hold my churchwarden just fine!

Once again, I love seeing your hand made accessories, Matt. Keep them coming.
