Tonight I get my "aged tobacco" cherry popped.. and I am beside myself with anticipation :)
From Steve at Pipestud's -
A 2004 2oz tin of Cornell & Diehl Vintage Blend "Da Vinci"

("A blend of specially selected and aged Cyprian Latakia, rough cut Burley and bright VA flake")

Two 2004 2oz tins of Cornell & Diehl "Old Hollywood"

("A blend of red VA, Latakia, red VA cavendish, and Turkish cubed burley")

For the Pièce de résistance... an 8oz 2002 tin of McClelland Red Wax Seal "Anniversary"

("An elegant matured Virginia ribbon-cut blend, naturally sweet with that clarity of flavor possessed by only the best Virginias. Seasoned lightly with fine, cool-smoking Cyprian Latakia. Aged for months to mellow. These tins were released in 2002 to commemorate 25 years of quality tobacco manufacturing, a total of only 3,000 tins were issued wrapped in commemorative ecru paper with a red wax seal. They were gobbled up quickly after pipe hobbyists discovered that this is one of the finest blends of its kind ever produced!")

BTW .. all 4 tins are slightly swollen and plump.. oh my :D

What's with the swollen tins? Is it fermenting in there? Is it safe? Pop one open, give it a sniff. It sounds

ready to pack to me, if it smells right.

oh my. I opened one of the Old Hollywood tins since I have 2 of those. The tin note was something I have read about, but never smelled before.. prunes and stewed figs! Wow. And the smoke? My goodness.. it's so much more.. just MORE of whatever was there originally I assume. It's complex, completely mellow, I'm smoking it right now... in my new Baki Meers ;) I taste the Va, the Lat, and I think the Turkish.. idk. I'm not experienced enough to put my fingers on the flavors I taste. I know they are familiar to me, but I can't put an adjective with it. All I can say is this is more exceptional than any current tobacco I have tasted... all GLP included. But like I said, this is my first time with aged tobacco. This is just too good to be true! It's like.. damn. Another level. A whole new level!! Wow. I love my pipes, my tobacco's and all my pipe buddies! This is just making me giddy.
But.. um.. this presents a HUGE problem with TAD... ugh. ;)

I'm truly happy for you Monty. I think we've all had those perfect bowls from time to time, but this really sounds amazing. You've convinced me of the need to find an old tin somewhere and give it a go.

Yeah...A "first world problem" for sure.
I suppose, but this tin I opened tonight was 10 yrs old, superb, and it only cost $14.00 from Pipestud's.
