It's easy to be skeptical of what most would think is a remake of the 1995 Robin Williams movie. I myself did not like the 95 Movie as it just struck me as absurd.
The 2017 version starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black could have gone in a lot of directions; however, it is no remake in the sense of the word. No spoilers since the Official Trailer sets the scene, four high school kids are sent to detention and told to clean out a basement room. Upon finding a video game called "Jumanji," they are absorbed into the game and become the characters they chose.
This movie is no Casablanca and makes no real "statement;" it does have some "be who you are" lessons, but overall it's an entertaining Action/Comedy that weaves the concept of a video game into the plot. IMO, Jack Black stole a lot of scenes he was in, not by being the quintessential "Jack Black," but by his portrayal of a self-absorbed teenage beauty queen. PG-13 and lots of laughs.
YMMV
