That stem is really gorgeous. I'm finally getting around to smoking a few of the two dozen unsmoked, P-, B-, G-, and E-grade early 1980s James Upshalls that I bought early this summer. Included in these are at least 8 silver spigots in a mix of shapes.
Anyway, I am finding that the JU vulcanite stems do indeed oxidize faster than most. The Cumberland/Brindle look is fantastic with the spigot. The silver adds enough separation from the wood that they are complementary, rather than clashing. I think I'll jump on the bandwagon! So, Norwood removed the silver from the black stem and moved it to the Cumberland?
By the way, Ken Barnes told me that the spigot stems never were stamped because there was no suitable place to put the stamp, which I guess was too large.
