From Jethro Tull. That's a photo of him in my avatar. Watching old documentaries especially later 70's to mid 80's I'm seeing the pipe here and there. I've read an interview as well where he mentions it, and actually name drops Peterson's. I've seen another similar but the band was either black or possibly no band...old VHS.

I cannot help but wonder what he was enjoying tobacco- wise. Any guesses or actually knowledge of it? Dumb question? ...send..

Saw him a couple of years ago without the other Tull members. Someone in the audience was smoking weed and he stopped in mid song to trash the person and he wouldn't continue until that person was escorted out. Great show though but what an asshole.

I had no idea the guy was a bastard. I certainly am losing interest in what was in the pipes now haha. I've also learned a lesson about making a reference to an avatar that I wasn't necessarily going to keep for good. My curiosity was getting the best of me as a new smoker that was noticing, and was actually surprised to see, a member of a band I've grew up on using a pipe. At the expense of taking a brow beating I'm taking him off there.

Honest newbie dumb mistake.

Take care,

Jamie

Jamie,

From what I've learned now about Ian's personality, reading your first post with your new avatar is pretty funny. You definitely have the right angle on that cow.

Best you change your name to Atom Heart Mother whilst at it eh?
FWIT today I ordered the live version of Aqualung (2005) which I never knew was released until today :puffy:
I looked for an SACD version but no luck so regular CD it has to be
Regards,
Jay.

Yes Jay! I may change my name haha.

I always notice your signature line. Great old Floyd there. Actually showed it to a friend the other day.

Affinity for Atom Heart and Meddle. But also the earliest too, Piper and Saucerful.
That sounds like could be a good record. I'll certainly check it out.

True story. There's a town called Tullahoma on the way from Chattanooga to Nashville, just off 24.
My English mother-in-law comes to visit some years ago, so we make the drive out to Nashville so she can check out the Hall of Fame, etc.
We drive past Tullahoma and I spin her the yarn of the history of that town. It used to be called Oklahoma, like the state.* But Jethro Tull rolled through there in the early 70's and did a show so completely awesome that the town changed their name to Tullahoma in honor of the band. That story still stands as accepted family history to this day. I'm fairly sure my wife believes it too.
*You have to understand the plausibility. In TN there are plenty of towns with names like Cleveland, South Pittsburgh, Philadephia, etc.
As a side note, many stories like this. One of the pluses of an imported wife (though England isn't very "exotic" as wives go). We once passed a Michael's. She asked me what it was. Thinking quickly, I told her it was a hunting and fishing store- a competitor to Dick's. She believed that for several years until one of her friends took her to Michael's. I've been stuck with cinnamon and estrogen ever since. (Though she does fo lovely holiday decorating, so I can't complain too loudly.)

Perique I may have believed that as well for a minute! Cool story. And cinnamon and estrogen do make for some festive Holidays.

Love your new avatar.from my favorite period of Floyd albums. But I love Tull and am glad you shared the link to the documentary. And give Ian a break. So what if he's an asshole. The world is full of them and lately it seems to me that most celebrities fall into that category. If I quit enjoying the art produced by assholes I would not enjoy much anymore. Just my two cents though.

If we culled our record collection of assholes there'd be no Tull, Floyd, Zep, Eagles, Beatles, Stones, Traffic, Beach Boys, Metallica, Yes, Genesis, Halen, ....Madonna...all kinds of goodies. My 2¢.

I have always loved Tull. I remember my uncle's story of seeing them in the early '70s. Someone threw something on stage, Ian stops the music, says if that happens again they will all leave, then without even a 1,2,3 lifts his hand and the band picked up on the EXACT note they left off on. He was mightily impressed.
I didn't get to see Tull til the early 90's. Anderson and Co. were freaking amazing. I went out and got a tattoo of Crest of a Knave. lol. Ah youth.
I heard an interview of Ian Anderson in 2008 or so on a Seattle radio station. He was fine. He had a great story about his daughter coming home from school one day and informing her dad that he played the flute improperly, and proceded to show him the right way.
He said he relearned the flute after that.
I found him intelligent and urbane with a low bullshit meter. I am sure in his youth he was a terror. lol
