I've used this method from time to time. I think that its worth a try just to see if it works for you. I use every method out there depending on the tobacco.. just my two cents.

Worst possible way ye say? 'pon my soul next time I pass Foxe's I shall call the fellow out for the swab that he is, and demand satisfaction!
I dare say he's overdrawn on his library books to boot.

If you guys don´t try new ways to do things you will never know for sure
Which is precisely why I tried the "swirly" method in the first place, in addition to the Frank Method, the Stuff-n-Puff, the Three-Step and Two-Step methods, cube cutting, and so forth. While I'm quite willing to experiment with fussier methods (such as the one you advocate for, and Fred Hanna's Air Pocket method), I suspect that I'll reach a point of diminishing returns pretty quickly, as my goal in packing my pipe is to get it packed and lit so that I can relax instead of sitting and fiddling with my pipe for half an hour... :D
