Dobie & Son were most famous for their Four Square range of blends.
I can't find much solid info to form any sort of useful or enjoyable dossier about them, so this is just a pictorial gallery of images I've saved.
Dobie's was bought out by Godfrey Phillips and by 1956 the old factory, known as "Greenhill Works" on Clark Street in Paisley was shut down and closed.
Much later, the 4 Square brand was made in Denmark up until around 2001 I think.
A couple of links...
...an odd source, the Singapore free Press circa '47 tells us that 4 Square blends started in 1922, also mentioning Dobie's Roll, a thick plug tobacco of exceptional strength -- sounds good!

...a very interesting article all about Dobie's, and stating the Paisley factory shut down "almost 20 years ago" circa 1976 --- it had indeed closed in 1956. This article notes how Alastair Clark was comissioned by Philip Morris to write a history of Dobie, PM had planned a whole series on famous bacca co's no longer in existence...I wonder if it ever got published?
