Dobie & Son were most famous for their Four Square range of blends.
I can't find much solid info to form any sort of useful or enjoyable dossier about them, so this is just a pictorial gallery of images I've saved.
Dobie's was bought out by Godfrey Phillips and by 1956 the old factory, known as "Greenhill Works" on Clark Street in Paisley was shut down and closed.
Much later, the 4 Square brand was made in Denmark up until around 2001 I think.
A couple of links...
...an odd source, the Singapore free Press circa '47 tells us that 4 Square blends started in 1922, also mentioning Dobie's Roll, a thick plug tobacco of exceptional strength -- sounds good!

...a very interesting article all about Dobie's, and stating the Paisley factory shut down "almost 20 years ago" circa 1976 --- it had indeed closed in 1956. This article notes how Alastair Clark was comissioned by Philip Morris to write a history of Dobie, PM had planned a whole series on famous bacca co's no longer in existence...I wonder if it ever got published?

Sometimes I'll revisit these old threads to update them if I've gathered enough new images along the way, and this is the case here.
Sadly,

I still haven't found any solid textual historical information to add.

Just recently I stumbled over a very decent looking four square billiard pipe.

Nothing to be found on the web though and I'd really like to know about its origin.

Did Dobie also forge pipes ?

Who can help me out ?
Greetings to you all.

Furioso - I'm unsure if Dobie had a line of pipes,

I will dig into my printed material archive and see if I can find anything.
Sinclair Tobacco made a Foursome pipe that seemed to be widely available.
Another interesting sidenote to Dobie:

Godfrey Phillips launched a paperback book series using the Four Square brand name.
Those books seem to be heavily collected today, like the Penguins, or similar to the Ace paperbacks collected in the USA, amongst others, as my favorite, Evergreen Black Cat Editions...
...pretty neat stuff,

I've always dug the paperbacks!
