This is an amazing clip of an historical moment, alas only 1 minute 33 seconds long but great viewing.
"Henry Alexander Jr, the son of Scotland's first Ford dealer, drove the Model T up and then down the mountain.

The publicity stunt was to show that the mass produced American car was superior to hand-crafted British ones."

Me too. I don't think its an Apple thing I think it's a Brit thing... trying to show us Americans that their mass produced videos are better than our hand crafted ones... :D

Lucas Electrics, anyone?
Ha ha.....that brings back memories. A joke amongst old Brit bike riders: Why do the English drink warm beer? Because their refrigerators are made by Lucas.

I assume this has been rectified with the bikes.

Thanks for the post. It is nice to see American made stuff actually working. It handled the terrain very well. :)

"It handled the terrain very well."
It did indeed considering how 'spindly' the chassis of the car seems to be.
Would I be right in saying they had no front brakes? I remember many years ago travelling in a 1929 Humber with wooden wheels, leather canopy and no front brakes!

Jay.

Great video! Driver and car did very well, but I didn't see how it proved Ford or Yankee superiority, unless the Brits' machines failed on the course. (in a film subsequently "lost"!) :)

Following on from the above, there was another BBC documentary called 'Magnificent Machines: The Golden Age of the British Sports Car'.
This is an hour long history of all the classic British sportscars from when we were leading the market.
This time no duff link to the BBC catchup page but the youtube version...I just hope it works
Enjoy the sportscar porn guys...

Living in Colorado I forget what passes for a mountain. That's a hill to me. (No offense intended) :)
