I've always been aware of this story ever since I moved to the village of Mawnan Smith about twenty years ago.
Here is some amazing footage of the many US military personal that drove through the village to Trebah Manor just outside of the village to use their private beach for sailing for the D-Day landings.
The thatched pub in the centre of both scenes is the Red Lion (circa 1480) and I live right behind it!
