Hello All,
I am in the process of documenting my Dunhills and ran into this question:
I have a Dunhill Shell with the following markings
53/ 1
Dunhill Shell (over)
Patent No. 1341418/20
Made in England
Because the stamping runs into the Shell Briar, I do not see a year stamp after either the word England or the end of the patent number.
However, I am suspecting that they possibly stamped the year date after the shape number since that is the only flat surface on the bottom of the pipe.
If I am correct, then the year stamp is a 1. Using the pipephil.eu dating matrix, it seems to me this would date my Dunhill to 1941?
I have attached pics for reference.
Any help would be appreciated.
