A little more done! Not bad for first attempt, but if I ever make another I learned a few things.

A very handsome and understated design. Have you considered using "museum glass" for the door to reduce UV oxidation of vulcanite stems? I have no experience with it to know if it would really help, but it's a feature that I've considered in my cabinet, once I build it. Of course, if it's in a windowless room, the glass is of no value.

Excellent. Is that a light oak stain or just careful sanding? I don't think I'd do much more to it. The refined understated design uses the grain and rusticity to great advantage. I don't think dressing it up any more will be an improvement. It's striking.

The room it will be in is fairly dark unless lights are on so using just a normal glass panel. If I ever make another I will remember that Museam glass.
Also the this is just sanding on antique red oak. I thought about staining but kind of like the unfinished look. I think I just need to install glass and maybe a little hand sanding and then fix the hanging brackets and it’s done. Holds a total of 28 standard size pipes and 14 churchwarden size pipes.
All in all happy for the $50 I have in it.

Easily worth five times that, for the artistry, and that would be a good bargain. Agree totally on finish. That is radiant.

Congrats, you made a really professional job with that cabinet!

I'm also thinking about making a pipe cabinet myself. I would like to have something similar in size but maybe with drawers inside for tobacco jars and pipe tools, cleaners. Now I keep everything in a decorative paper box and it is not satisfying to take out pipe stuff from there. But in my case I think the basics should be an Ikea cabinet because it needs to match with other furnitures in the house, otherwise my wife will throw me out with my new DIY pipe cabinet

May I ask you about the dimensions (sizes) of it? Also for the racks, please. If it is not a problem for you, could you give it in metric system (mm, cm)?

Very nice!! I had a pallet at work that was made out of oak. I salvaged the cross pieces (2x6's and 2x4's) and plan to make a cabinet of them. Do you happen to have measurements on this? Would you care to share?
