Think of it primarily as a fun toy to play with.
Although...industry people read the forums, so polls might be a good way for them to gauge opinions without having to wade through a pile of posts.

Since each of us process information differently, it's just another tool to get the job done.

For instance, you can tell me a set of instructions verbally and I am often no wiser than the start of the conversation.

I’m with you, Jay,! Verbally, it’s a loosely connected string of buzzwords, but when it’s in writing, it all makes sense. (Usually)

I'm not a statistics person, but I can see the potential here. Get a range on number of pipes members own; numbers of particular brands; number of bowls a day; favorite blenders. The subjects are plentiful.

I am not against polls on principle, plus I am a relatively new member so I don’t have any sense of, “the place ain’t what it used to be”. I will likely just refrain from opening threads I don’t want to read.
