It has been difficult to buy pipe tobacco overseas. However, I just got this from Synjeco :
PACT - ACT
The PACT-ACT is "An Act to prevent tobacco smuggling, to ensure the collection of tobacco taxes, and for other purposes."

P.A.C.T. = Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act of 2009
For a longer period, it was not clear, if Pipe Tobacco falls under the limitations of the PACT-Act or not.

Finally, thanks to a pipesmoker Friend from USA, we received following answer from the US-FDA:
Sendermail: CTP EXECSEC [mailto:CTPEXECSEC@fda.hhs.gov]

Message: Thank you for your email. FDA does not enforce the PACT-ACT, and we do not currently regulate pipe tobacco, but this may change in the future. So please continue to check our website.

Signed by: Center for Tobacco Products/FDA - CTP Call Center: 1.877.CTP.1373 www.fda.gov/tobaccoproducts
This are good news: we are able and willing to provide our pipesmoker Friends with them preferred pipe tobaccos.

There are following things to remember, according to the PACT-ACT:
You can order and we can send: Pipe Tobacco, Pipes and Accessories
Shipments with Pipe Tobacco MUST have the exact content declaration including weight and value (we will provide the proper label on the parcel)
Perhaps in the State where you are living there are applicable different taxes, it will be up to you to make sure that everything will be according to the law from your side
We will NOT be allowed to send any Snuff or RYO

Thanks so much for the follow up!

Their website has indeed been updated to reflect shipping to the US. Although the pricing remains higher than I'm used to paying, this does provide a source for those "Hard to get in the States" blends. Mmmmm, St.James Plug....
Interesting that they feel they can't ship snuff to the states.

Thanks for the post Doc. The easy availability of Sam Gawith tobaccos makes it a tempting proposition. The Swiss Franc is now valued at about $1.12 USD, but shipping will be a little pricey. Too bad the popular credit cards and PayPal won't cooperate with tobacco merchants.
