Good Day All;
I saw this and could not resist. I am guessing the pipe is from the 1980's or later?

Might anyone add greater info?
Thanks

It looks like a "three part C"...best I can tell. What are you going to do about the "...tiny pinhole on the underside at the end of the mouthpiece."?
I guess not the cased set Mike?

Dave, I sent George an email already early this morning. First I want the pipe in hand and then we shall see.

HHORRAAAYYYY Yes I was very lucky. I would have preferred a pair of billiards, but I'll suck it up and still enjoy the apple.

Thanks Jesse
I am really pleased to get the cased set. A little worried about the Blue Riband. Photo have me "concerned" that the little hole might be a big hole. Little is very relative, depending on which side of the sale you sit. hahahah

I'm with Dave, the C looks like it is the drilled, pre-'81 vintage.

A small hole should be an easy fix, keep us posted.
Congratulations on the cased GBD's!

The GBD cased set has arrived. Better than expected. Both pipes are New Eras. Both have HAND CUT, stamped on the stems. Silver inlaid stem rondelles. Both have LONDON ENGLAND in a straight line. Shapes are a 312 ( straight apple ) and a 378 ( Lovat ).
If I understand all the pipedia info etc on GBD, the pipes are pre merger. But how old I can only hazard a guess. I can not find any information stating when the New Era line began.
Now I sit and wait for the Blue Riband.

Michael, I have a cut out ad from Punch - January 16, 1924 showing a GBD New Era. "All shapes and sizes 10/6"

Shown is model N.E. 602 ( a billiard)

Hello Jorgen
Thanks. So I now know it was from between 1924 and the merger 1979 or 1981.

7th photo from the top. Left side 2 pipe cased set. I now know who's collection the set came from. I guess I should send Greg an email.

There it is Mike! I was lucky enough to recently find an example of the Cutty shape in the same picture, the 111. :)

Nice Dave.
Now here's an interesting twist. The set I bought was indeed Greg's. Which he bought from me many years ago. Once he told me that, I remembered the set. I bought it and sold it as I was not a fan of the straight apple shape. So sold by me, and returned to me. I guess it was fate.

That's quite a tale Mike, what goes around comes around! That makes sense that there would not be two of this set. It also makes sense that they would have been given "Hand Cut" stems. I have few stems with that stamp and find them to be excellent.

Man nice set. Just got a hand cut bulldog. Unfortunately the previous owner sanded the rondell even with the stem and the "hand cut" is barely visible.
