The wife took me for a walk through the "junktique" shops just the other side of New Orleans. Found an interesting pipe stand/humidor that I didn't buy,

Here's what I did buy. It was on sale for 45% off of the price tag.

Here's the one I didn't buy. It was 45% off also but still more than I wanted to spend.

Mike,

I asked and the guy at the shop said they were told it was carved in the Black Forest region of Germany. I checked it out and it is old and used. That's just the patina. This is the same shop that had the matching set of Thorneycraft pipes the other day. We went there to see if they had other pipe related stuff.

Yikes, that is pricey. I regularly see those offered for under $50 on ebay. Great looking jar!
That's why the stand/humidor thing is still sitting in that shop. I looked but didn't see anything like it on line.
The jar on the other hand was only $35 plus tax. I've seen them going on ebay from $75 to $100.

Cool jar/crock. I like it. Hard to tell from the pic. How big? Six inches, eight, ten?

Even this one is more expensive than I usually see. They tend to go between $20 and $35.

That pipe rack is gorgeous and that jar looks great! You got it for a steal and it’s actually really cool. I have an old Captain Black tobacco jar I inherited when my great grandfather passed away about 6 years back
After seeing the photos of that pipe rack I may need to pick one up for myself though!

I decided to put tobacco tins in the tobacco jar. I was able to easily fit 9 tins into it and probably could squeeze at least one more in there.

pappy, that's a fine tobacco jar, and best of all, it won't just collect dust. Bravo.

I concur, those are a couple of very nice crocks! What tobacco would you store in that pipe stand crock if you had it?
Maybe a nice aromatic or your favorite codger blend. A tobacco that doesn't need to be stored in an airtight container to remain in good condition.
