It's been a real challenge to get in much shop time since Chicago, but just finished this one- Seems like I've made a bunch of Authors this year and I figured it was time to try some variations- The blast was around 5 hours under a magnifier with a microblaster. The shank ring is Ooosik (Fossilized Walrus Penile Bone), and I decided to switch things up with a saddle stem... Have one more Author I'm starting today, and that will be for the Kansas City Competition(If I don't screw it up...:)

I know there is a Viagra joke just dying to be said, but that is a gorgeous piece. The stem material really compliments the blast.

Yeah...and I'm just waiting for someone to ask me to make a stem out of Ooosik....(BTW- out of all the materials like horn, bone, and ivory I've worked with in the past, this stuff really, really stinks!)

I once made a necklace charm for a friend out of fossilized whale vertabra, and it was quite foul as well.

I had to look up what oosic meant.

The pharma companies are glad that human males don't have them.
The pipe is killer!
I love the gnarly deep blast, major props on that, I especially like the grain orientation and how it curves along with the shape which is complimentary to the form and pleasing to the eye.
Speaking of the shape, in the pic it looks as if the nose is exaggerated (sorta like a Castello 55), and I think that tweak works really well, adding a dynamic movement of forward thrust.
You're doing excellent work and I've enjoyed seeing all the variations you explore as your portfolio expands.
Good stuff.

Is that an author in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
Nice looking pipe!

I'm just glad I didn't make the stem from Oosik...The comments would have been much, much worse...

Yes. I'm pretty sure Oosik as a stem material feels much harder in the mouth.

Well done sir.

I like the proportion, the choice of materials and the finish.

The whole pipe looks like a fossiized piece: not only the Oosik ring, the black deeply sandblasted bowl too and the bone or mineral looking stem.

Is the stem from that famous german company whose name I forgot?

Do you sign your pipes or do you have your own brand?

Yep...I buy all my rod stock directly from SEM in Germany. 95% of the briar I buy is from Carlo Carlino in Calabria Italy- we visited them 3 years ago- excellent briar- not well known in the US because they only speak Italian.
On a good year, I'll make 50 pipes or so- I usually do 2-4 pipe shows a year as ZHamric Pipes...
