This is fly season in Sydney. Not fly fishing, but those annoying flying things that cover you as you walk or sit in open spaces. For those not familiar with the Aussie fly; they are best described in the words of a young Brazillian friend of my wifes: "They are not like flies in Brazil; when you swat them away these come back for a fight".
The flies are really after sweat on the skin and are persistent little buggers.
I recall my dad smoking cigars in the garden when I was a kid to keep flies away but that was back in England and Ireland. What I've found here in Sydney is that you can smoke Chelsea Morning, Black Frigate, Presbyterian, Maltese Falcan, or pretty much any English or Balkan blend and the flies are not bothered and still try to settle on your nose in a most annoying manner.
But, I've now found an expected benefit of smoking Grousemoor; the little buggers can't stand it!
(You still end up covered in flies; just not on your face.)
