Vegas Baby!!!
Ryan reached out to me and asked if I was looking for more pipes. I was like "duh". So he sent me the following pictures. SOLD. I now own 32 of his pipes. It would be 33 but I wasn't a fan of the Morta Reverse Calabash I had, so I sold it, but these check all the boxes!!
I have two of the prototypes for this design and love them, so buying these was easy and without rubbing two brain cells together.
The sandblast is 4.5" long and weighs 28 grams.
The smooth is is 4.85 long and weighs 30 grams.

Great looking pipes! I have yet to see an ugly Ryan Alden pipe...

It is your Alden pipe hoarding that is making it difficult for me to buy one. LOL
I like the Devil Anse shapes and those are superb. Congrats! I hope Ryan is at the Chicago show with some pipes I can look at and hopefully buy. Or at least meet him and discuss a commission.

I already own one orific and one "standard". I don't notice a difference and these pipes cost less than a "standard" stem. I believe, don't quote me, they are part of a "new line" Ryan is going to offer. I'll post the two prototypes I have tomorrow.

Very nice...especially the second one.
EDIT: you know, after looking at them again I'm not sure...I think I might like the first one better.

Thought maybe he was going for a period piece design. I own a couple of orific pipes as well and they smoke just as well as a slotted bit.

Orific means the draft hole is round as opposed to a slot?
Yes. Often, these old orific stems were quite rounded, too, making them uncomfortable or difficult to clench.
The slot on modern stems is usually just a short section which is intended to spread the smoke as it leaves the pipe. On others, that slot extends deep into the stem, effectively enlarging the smoke channel. This short and wide channel enables the maker to create a mouthpiece which is very thin behind the button.

For some reason aldenpipes won't load for me. Probably due to a slow internet connection today. I'll try to see them later. But congratulations, and enjoy the heck out of them!

I like my several nose warmers, especially the MM cob Dagner collaboration and my hand-carved Jerry Perry pot with a thick shank and amber colored stem for durability in a pocket pipe. That's a beautiful example in the original post. I don't much like the context of the Hatfield-McCoy feud, which seems like a death festival and short circuiting of family loyalties all around. Devil Anse was the patriarch of one of the feuding families, for those not up on their feuds. They found they could shoot each other without account, so they did. I think the families have picnics together to mend the gory history.
