Your pipe is probably fine to smoke, 1870's or 1880's would be a different story, but if you are concerned, just take care to smoke it extra slow for the first dozen bowls or so while you build up a layer of carbon as an insulator. Smoke it as cool as you can. If the tobacco goes out give it a moment or two then fire it up again. Just keep the smoking temp down initially.Sorry for highjacking, but I recently ordered a NOS 70ies / 80ies pipe. It has not yet arrived, so I still have time to ask, if a pipe of that age also in danger of cracking? Or more of a general matter - how should one proceed with an old pipe, that has been untuched for a while to minimize the risk of cracking?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Jesus Balls. There was less cake than that at my wedding. You could probably put cigarette tobacco in there and it would taste like Briar Fox.Give it to me, I'll take good care of it.
