Is there a pipe shape = tobacco type matrix?

Tall and narrow for Virginias, short and wide (square) bowls for Latakia blends. Conventional wisdom calls for narrow pipes for flakes. I find it like flakes best cube-cut and gravity fed into a wide-ish bowl. Keep your latakia and straight viriginia pipes separate. Beyond that, it's a...

Which GL Pease blend should be my first?

Abingdon and Westminster. Sixpence is wonderful too.

Who is DK on Tobaccoreviews.com Because He is a Genius.

Yes, another upvote for SteelCowboy too. Permanently grateful to folks willing to spend the time and money necessary to expand our collective understanding! @JimInks: it's always great to hear of someone else from the tribe of hedgehog. I chose the moniker because my wife is French, and the...

JimInks is another favorite of mine too. Thank you for your fine reviews, JimInks! I will upvote them both.

Who is DK on Tobaccoreviews.com Because He is a Genius.

For more than a year, I've found that the one reviewer who really just nails it over and over again is DK on tobaccoreviews.com. HIs reviews are straightforward, thoughtful, articulate, and thorough, in short, a pleasure to read. I've taken his recommendations on tobaccos I wouldn't have tried...

Samuel Gawith Black XX Finest Kendal Twist

Great review! I think I'll pass, but the review was a blast.

    Rattray's Pipes

I have one Rattray's, a diplomat shape I believe, and it's just perfect for latakia blends. My understanding was that they were made by Butz Choquin. Wherever it comes from, I love it.

Tea Drinkers - What Online Stores Do You Use?

+1 for uptontea.com. Phenomenal selection and service. I've been buying from them for 20 years.

    Brebbia Golden Bark Pipe

Brebbias are superb smokers, a favorite of mine. I've got a lovat, a bent billiard, and another slightly bent billiard (shape 8311) which is one of my favorite pipes. I don't know anything about the Golden Bark line.

    Beautiful pipe!

    Dear Smokingpipes...

Great suggestions. I second them all. I'd also love to see well-lit pictures of the bottom of the bowl, so we can at least see how the drilling looks at the bowl end. It would also be great if there were some way in the "Pipe Locator" to search for stem types, i.e. saddle-bit versus tapered bits.

    One Tin at a Time

I've been sticking to a one-tin-only rule for about a year now. I love it. While I don't always love the one time I'm working my way through, I feel I am becoming more acquainted with the various blends I try, and better at smoking because it's always a challenge to figure out the best shape...

    ^lordnoble, that was sublime.

Sixpence - what is that feeling I get?

Hello Gadgetech, I believe I know exactly what you are saying, and I'd suggest that while perique can add strength to a blend, the KDF is the real kicker here. My understanding is that burley (KDF is burley tobacco) has fewer sugars to counteract the tendency for the leaf to produce an alkaline...

    Jackknife Ready Rubbed

Yes, @trailboss, the Ted Nugent of tobaccos! Nothing, @planetary, could be as manly as that moustache.

    Rattray pipes? Thoughts!

I've got one Rattray's pipe, a Triskele diplomat, and I love it beyond description. It smokes on of my favorite tobaccos, Squadron Leader, as though the match were foreordained in heaven.

    Jackknife Ready Rubbed

Just posted at tobaccoreviews.com. Short version: gracious, this is manly. I light up a bowl of JKRR, and I think, all of us on this forum, whether old or young, black or white, male or female, we're all men here, and this tobacco is an incitement to extreme manliness. Suddenly all I want to do...
