I'm sure there is an easier way.

    Honey Mead Noob Question

Good luck to you. I'm not a huge fan of the dry mead. They often taste too watery to me. I want mead to have some character of the honey that comes through in both aroma and taste.

    Breaking In a New Cob

I always take the filter out when I buy one that comes with a filter. They don't require a "break in" like a briar, but a new MM cob will have a slight sweet taste for the first couple bowls until the corn carbonizes. Also, you will notice a woody taste at the bottom of the bowl until the stem...

    Them Cobs . . .

I love my cobs and I tend to reach for them first. I treat them like real pipes, but I see the stems they come with as disposable and easily replaced. I also love how they color over time.

    "Real" Tobacco

I'm happy when I see anyone smoking a pipe with tobacco and consider everyone who enjoys putting tobacco in their pipes to be part of the brotherhood of pipe smokers. I think people should smoke what they like. I might draw a soft line at the RYO tobacco that is branded as pipe tobacco. I'm not...

    Tobacco Rotation

For me its normally 3 or 4 tins at any given time. I smoke somewhere between 3 and 10 bowls per day. I always have a jar of McClelland Bulk No. 5100 Red Cake and an aromatic open at the same time. I frequently have some kind of English Blend (Squadron Leader right now) and a drug store blend...

    Women! Sigh.

As radio and wilson pointed out, the real issue is the ultimatum. I'd sprint away from this one. You want a woman who you can be in a relationship with, not one who is a dictator.

Bennington Tobacconist, Boca Raton FL (Feature Article)

Great article. I've frequented the St. Armand’s Circle location before, but I never knew there was one on the Atlantic Coast.

    Why Do You Smoke ?

I smoke because it is enjoyable, and I like the taste.

    Determining Nicotine in Blends

I wouldn't want to see a label since that would mean there was more regulation that defines how to test for those things. The best indicator to me is the mention of a large amount of dark-fired leaf. I know some burley tends to be high on its own, but I don't have a reliable way to tell without...

    Go-To Blends?

Red Cake 5100, generally DGTed, and sometimes home stoved at 200 for 2hours or so.

    Nat Sherman #536

I am not. I'm glad to know you enjoyed it. I've always wanted to try some of them ever since I read the interview with Joel Sherman.

What's Your Favorite Part of the Smoke?

The middle of the bowl, when I know its lit and won't need a tamp for a while. Then the pipe can just become a part of me and I can settle into some work. My least favorite part is when I've tamped a bowl for the last time. It always seems to come at an inconvenient moment, and I tend to dislike...

Moderate or Occasional Pipe Smoking Only?

I started out as a moderate pipe smoker because I really only had the time on the weekends. Now I smoke anywhere from 0 to 10 bowls a day, and I probably average around 5. Of the pleasures taste, pipe smoking is one of the least expensive and very pleasurable.

What Are You Smoking? June 2013

Red Cake 5100 in a Vauen 005 Rusticated 1/2 Bent Apple.

When Buying a Pipe, Will You Sacrifice?

I buy pipes that speak to me. I tend to dislike pipes that take a filter, but I own a Sav and a Vauen that can take them and I still smoke them. Both are good smokers. I almost always smoke bents, but if I saw a pipe from a maker that I really wanted at the right price, then i'd probably...

    Pipes and Parents

I'm glad they've decided to accept it. Perhaps they'll come around to having you join them in the basement. I hope you are able to find a nice place to enjoy your pipe. Maybe you have a local pipe club?

Let That Charring Light Sit Overnight

I DGT all the time. Seems to work best with VAs. I've heard its not recommended for cigar leaf blends.

Pipe Grip Ambidextrous (or Lack Therof)?

    I'm generally a left side.

    A Gift From Foggymountain

It is the amazing generosity and upstanding character of those that smoke pipes that make me happy to be part of this hobby.
