Morley's PC meeting 7:00pm Pen & Pencil Club 30Apr Tuesday

After a long hiatus since before COVID, we are resuming our monthly meetings this April 30, a Tuesday, at the Pen & Penicl Club at 1522 Latimer Street in Center City. Dinner is no longer provided, so figure on eating ahead of time. We are going to explore the possibility of ordering TakeOut...

Lester Young Repeats as USA Slow Smoking Champion!

Yo Cho - the 2nd match, if unused, has to be relinquished to the monitor. IE no relights once the initial light up is done.

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

All set to arrive Friday afternoon. I see significant changes to the schedule, which are improvements for me: the Swap has moved from before the Show to later - this should help the vendors who have paid for show tables, when customers don't shoot their wad before the main event. And the Slow...

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

For me, flying in from Philly, the rise in admission is more than made up by getting rid of the limo cost from the airport to Pheasant Run or Lincolnshire.

    Advice on Nasal Snuff

Yo fish - try shaking the dispenser to stir the snuff up, then tap it on the bottom to settle it, then open the port. Gently sniff at the port. By adjusting the strength of your sniff and distance to the open port, you can regulate the dose.

    No Licorice or Anise Flavour

Yo Bas - you are a lucky puffer. cos here beat me to it, since I am about to tell you that you don't need to chase any Esotericas or Germain's. All pipe tobacco is cased with a sweetener, even if it isn't topped (rare). This is to make it smokeable and happens at the first stages of...

    Greetings from New Jersey

Yo Jac - are you near the Philly area? There are several pipe clubs that may be within your range: Lehigh Valley Pipe Club in Bethlehem PA, the NJ Fellowship of Pipe Smokers that meets up in JR Cigars in Parsippany and a new one in Southern NJ. This winter we hope to resurrect the long...

    What's the Lowdown on Uhle's?

The late, great Bob Runowski was a member of Morley's PC and a renowned burley expert. He created signature blends with Craig at C&D including Old Joe Krantz (his uncle), Haunted Bookshop, and many others, but always told me the best burleys were Uhle's 00 and Perfection Plug.

Why Some Pipes Deliver More Nicotine

Yo Bri - I'm with you on good insulating briar helping in the better taste department. My guess is that you are smoking slower, since the ember isn't losing a lot of heat through the walls. The point of pipe smoking is not combustion of the tobacco, but rather pyrolysis. A fast burn would...

    Turkish Latakia?

Yo bad - betcha this new Turkish Lat is Gladora. When I was in Romania for the Int'l Slow Smoke Event, one of the vendors was this company. They had big blocks of Latakia Flake, and I nabbed some to bring home. The Chesapeake PC puffed flakes that I ulued off and pronounced that this is...

    CIPC World Slow Smoking Championship

We actually managed to assemble a USA team for the International Slow Smoking event. There were 199 pipers, and I got only 47 minutes out of my EMP. Still, that was in the top half (I am number 84) and was the best of our team, but I should have gotten another 15 minutes out of the bowl.. I...

Who is Going to the NASPC Show in Columbus?

Will be taking in my first Columbus show. I've done Chicago, Richmond, New York/Newark and Vegas over the years. Might bring some tins to move on to new homes. With umpteen lifetimes of leaf, my wife is encouraging me to deacquisition.

    JJ Fox Campanile - WTF?

Yo blu - have you tried Orcilla? J,Fox and R.E.Lewis product lines parallel each other.

How GL Pease Source His Tobacco?

"Blending" tobaccos is not only just cold blending. A given batch of a tobacco can be stoved, toasted, roasted, pressed, etc. The late Bob Runowski told me at Morley's that the late Craig Tarler complained about how particular Greg was with the temperatures in one of the processing steps. I...

    All Flames Equal?

Fire isn't just fire, temperaturewise. Fireplace fanciers and campers consider different woods produce different heats. Maybe why Vesta Swans have fanciers is the wood that brand uses which may minimize scorching the delicate tobaccos. I've never done pot, but some of my friends like to use...

    Oriental Blend Recommendation

Orientals cover a lot of territory. A lot of current 'Orientals' are crossmixed, unlike the great McClelland Grand Orientals which key in on one varietal at a time. Quite a few varietals have disappeared. Also there is a lot of overlap with "Turkish" which to me are more pungent - think of...

    Oriental Blend Recommendation

If you like Orcilla, try Campanile, which I prefer. The extinct Ferndowns (Black and Tan, etc) are great. 3 of the Chonowitsch's are in a similar vein. If you like Brunello Flake, try Patriot Flake.
