Sorry I have been absent - but I am back!

Hi Folks - sorry I achieved my 1000 posts and then disappeared - my computer took a nose dive and has been in the shop for a couple of weeks. I will be posting again soon. All the best, Clanobucklin

Rich's Tobaccos - superb blends that you must try!

Hello Amigos! Rich's Cigar Shop is a fine purveyor of pipe smoking tobaccos. You might have run across one of my reviews on one of their blends early on last year. I stopped smoking them for a while after legendary blender Steven Books went on to his own venture - ala House of Calabash. With...

Hit 1000 Posts Today - WhooHoo!

Well it was a tough battle of wills - but I made it to 1000 posts. There was a point where the forces of Darkness were doing their best to lull me into complacency..."Gee 900 posts isn't so bad...maybe I will stop here." "Does anyone REALLY care?" "Oh Gawd! The Shadows...the Shadows are closing...

How many bowls do you smoke in a row or in one sitting?

I am begining to lose my desire to have 1 bowl after another. Ie 2 bowls in one sitting. Seems the 2nd bowl is lost in the shuffle. If I knock this off - I will be averaging 3 bowls a day instead 4-5. My reasoning is 1. time. 2. Since I am always switching blends - the 2nd bowl of different...

Peretti's Royal Blend - a pinacle of English Blends

How can you improve on perfect? Well...you can't. I have to say - that Peretti's "Royal Blend" is the finest and maybe the pinacle of all English Blends. Rickpal sent me a sample of this and I put in a 4 ounce order today. It has all the makings of a great English. Smokey, chewy - meaning that...

Sterling/1776 Announces New Crop of Super Blends

After much testing - Jack Peterson has released a new crop of blends that I have personally tried - they are all wonderful. My favorites are Freedom Blend (may not be listed - but available - English Blend with Deertongue casing - Yowsa!), White Tail Aromatic, and Sterling Balkan. Check them out...

Corn Cob Pipes? Well if you haven't tried one - You Oughta!

Once upon a time, when I was a young Buck, I knew I wanted to continue smoking after years of smoking cigarettes. While in the military (USMC) cigarettes were cheap - but I knew there were health risks - so I looked to my Dad for inspiration. My Dad had been a hard core pipe smoker all his life...

House of Calabash "Young Master" - Tobaccos by Steven Books

I have just recently received a small shipment of this terrific blend. And I plan on ordering more - here is a blend that I would almost say bridges the gap between Aromatics and English Blends. With a little perique in it - who knows VaPer Folks might like it as well. What I love about this...

Today is my Birthday - Clanobucklin, Beloved Member

Let's give a shout for my 56 year old Birthday. I took the Aged P out for tea this morning and tonight my beautiful wife is going to make me a steak grilled in garlic and olive oil. It is my annual treat. I just tried a cob pipe after 23 years and I have to say despite the glue at the bottom it...

Steven Books Tobaccos Knocks it out of the Park - Irishman's 5 O'Clock

Next up on my Tobacco list is Irishman's 5 O'Clock. After trying a 1/2 ounce sample I ordered another 2 ounces of this blend which arrived today. This is a medium-full English blend that is very robust in flavor. There is a lot of Latakia in this one - but it doesn't overwhelm or hide any...

Canadian Maple from House of Calabash - Tobaccos by Steven Books

For all you Autumn Evening Fans this one is for you if you love Maple. While more restrained than AE this one has a sophistication and balance that is hard to beat. Lightly Sweet, rich with a real tobacco taste that is not obscured by the casing. Highly Recommended for Maple Lovers and fans of...

    Okay...I am Baccck!

Howdy Folks - just to let you know I worked things out with Kevin and am back on posting on this site. When I left I made some comments on another site (did not mention pipesmagazine) that I felt (in retrospect) were out of line. If I offended anyone in the pipe smoking community - I apologize...

Steven Books is Back! House of Calabash - His own Store & Tobaccos

Steven Books is back! For those of you not familiar with Steve's tobaccos - I urge you to check out his website introducing his new store. He is an incredible Tobacco blender, a wizard - formerly of Rich's Cigar Shop. While his tobaccos are pricey - they make an incredible smoking experience. I...

Altadis' Black Spice - A Value Priced Pipe Tobacco that Rocks!

It's been a while since I penned any Tobacco Review. There have just been so many excellent tobaccos to choose from. Recently Roy, a friend & pipemaker, recommended I try Altadis Black Spice. Now I am not a big fan of Altadis tobaccos - but what the heck? I thought I would give this one a try -...

    Roy Frame's Freehand

I heard about this carver on Ebay and I have to say - I am very impressed with his work. I just got in this large Freehand Poker from him and I absolutely love it. It smokes extremely well & feels great in the hand. Roy is also great to deal with. I have another custom pipe he made just for me...

Case of Two Bulldogs Continued; LaCroix Pipe Back from the Dead!

As some of you know there was a little SNAFU a few weeks ago as one of my pipes ended up at the wrong address and was promptly beheaded to make a pipe tamper. The Pipe, A LaCroix, was rusticated by JasonGone and he did a beautiful job on rusticating the pipe. The pipe was made into a tamper by...

Pipe Modifications that Rock! Ways You Enhanced Your Pipe's Smoking Experience

I recently gave a friend my only Caminetto pipe and so I was on the search on Ebay for another one. As luck would have it - I got one pretty cheap - $35 bucks - with no bidding from competitors. The main reason no one bid is that it looked filthy and had "Dog" written all over it. I have had a...

Tora, Tora, Tora - Zeus meerschaum takes a nose dive - need advice

I can't believe it. I decided to smoke the pipe. And while gently smoking it I heard a "KaaaChUNNNK" the stem cracked in a inverted V on the bottom the stem. My first impulse was to toss the sucker...but then remembering it was gift (and my friend's Dad's Pipe) I thought I will just baby till...

Help me identify this Meerschaum Pipe Image

Hello All, I recently was given this meer pipe as a gift. It belonged to my friend's father and is unsmoked. I am tempted to light 'er up...but want to know if any one can identify the face/image of the pipe. It is a bearded man with a laurel wreath on his head and what looks like shamrocks or...
