    What Did You Start With?

I was in the Air Force and picked up my first pipe at the BX (That's AF lingo for PX) This would have been in the latter half of the '80's. It was a Grabow Prince which I still have and smoke on occasion. I smoked nothing but CB Royal 'cause I didn't know any better. I remember buying the 8 oz...

One great link and one great tool

Now I have this picture in my mind of a mighty viking standing in the canning section at Walmart checking out the selection of Ball jars.

Zippo Lighters: Lighting the Bottom of the Bowl

I personally have never had a problem with the taste of the lighter fluid, though I've heard of it from others as well. Maybe depends on the fluid you're using. I use the Zippo labeled fluid. Who really makes it I don't know.

Zippo Lighters: Lighting the Bottom of the Bowl

I use the Zippo with the pipe chimney. If that's what you've got, make sure the chimney is flat against the rim of your pipe. This will help with the deeper draw. Also make sure you're wick is adjusted properly for plenty of flame. Should basically fill (lengthwise) the opening in the chimney.

    Restored Dr Grabow Freehand

Love it. I had an identical one I bought in my younger days. In my smoking ignorance I burned it out. These are much classier than what they put out now. Glad to see one being put back into service.

    Corn Cobb (General) Smokes Great!

Don't sell your cob short. They are an excellent smoker in general. No fussing around. No gurgles, no worries about teeth marks or charring the rim. They're what I smoke 90% of the time.

    Tin tobacco accordian inner wrapper

Never thought of this. Maybe a paper coffee filter in the smaller jars. I might have to try it. BTW I do fill my pipe directly from the tin when I have one. Most of my stuff is bulk that I've transferred to the short wide-mouthed jars.

That last little bit of unused tobacco....

I usually just mix it with something similar to top off the bowl and smoke it up.

Question for Tamper Makers Regarding 9mm Shells

I used a 45acp casing on a simple tamper I made recently. I basically just picked up a stick, shaved the end to a taper so it would press into the casing and epoxied it together. I also carved a simple bowl poker/scraper on the other end. It works great for me. Time required:10 minutes Tool...

    Has Peterson Quality Really Declined?

Frankly, I'm that customer, that if I don't like your product, I won't return it, you'll just probably never hear from me again. This pipe is smokeable and I'm working to make it better (hopefully). I've added pipe mud to bring the base of the bowl up to the level of the draw hole. I'm gradually...

    Has Peterson Quality Really Declined?

Just purchased a Pete rusticated churchwarden. Not impressed at all. I'm not a serious collector, so it was kind of a big deal to drop the hundred bucks on a pipe. Poorly drilled as far as I can tell. Stampings (on the briar and stem) are of low quality. Still getting stain out of the interior...

    Bishop's Move

Being from Michigan, I can't order directly from them for some reason. I had my last order sent to my son out of state and I picked it up from him later. The only outlet for Uhle's in MI is Bookworld, which is spotty at best. Went there today (100 miles round trip) to refresh my supply, and...

    Bishop's Move

Just an update: I'm really getting into this blend. At first I think my taster was too immature, but I'm glad I've stuck with it. Bishop's Move is now my go-to blend with Raiders Blend a close second when I want a mild aro. Heading to a local (sort of) shop that carries Uhle's today. Hopefully...

    Anybody else do this?

That sounds like it. And there's a name for it! Though not a name to my liking.
