    Microwaving Tobacco

I've always found that I have a little more control over the process if I put the tobacco over a table lamp or something of that sort. Dries the tobacco relatively quick and it's a little slower than the microwave so I find I have more control.

    Accidentally Inhaled Erinmore Flake...

On the true light, and and felt good for about 3 seconds, and then boy, was I dizzy. As a former cigarette smoker I thought my nicotine tolerance was relatively high, but pipe tobacco is it's own beast. Inhale this baccy at your own risk

    Cleaning a Meerschaum

How do you do it after each smoke? I heard wiping the inside of the bowl with a paper towel is a good way to do it, helps the cake to not build up excessively.

    Hoarders gone wild?

To a lesser degree as well, I think the proliferation of web retailers and websites like pipesmagazine is a big reason for people buying so much tobacco. It's so easy to order more tobacco, hear about new blends, read reviews, talk to others about it whereas before the net a lot of people relied...

    Hoarders gone wild?

I think individuals have always cellared tobacco to some degree, although I do agree it is now my prevalent than ever before. I attribute it to the possibility of further taxation, laws, or other various nuisances that people are predicting for pipe tobacco. People just want to protect...

    A Cob Pipe... Really?

+1 phred! Cobs also have the added bonus of being so inexpensive, they make amazing pipes to smoke while doing any kind of work, because they can take so much abuse. If you were to drop and break it, no problem, just buy another one. IMHO though cobs have tendencies to survive the harshest...

How Would You Respond To This?

I'm gonna try and make this story short. Just an FYI, maybe I'm over-reacting, maybe I'm not. I just want more opinions. I have a select group of friends that I've kept for a number of years, all around my age (18-20), I'm 20. Not to be boastful, but I consider myself to be the most mature of...

    Dry, Dry, Dry!

Hmmm, some pipe juice would sure be a pick-me-up in the wee hours of the morning. I however, enjoy my coffee to much to trade it up

    He Doesn't like pipe Smokers

In my humble opinion, B&Ms are to us as churches are to the religious. I relish my time in my local B&M, perusing the many fine racks of pipes and tobacco. If the owner one day, for some reason, decided to give me the same spiel he gave to you, I'd pick the nearest pipe off a rack, look him...

    Can you abuse a cob?

Honestly, cobs are so inexpensive that that should be your last worry with them. Smoke the hell out of it. At work, I've literally thrown my cob across the room, picked it up, and continued to smoke it. If I could I'd have a cob going all day everyday at work, with no concern over abusing it. If...

    Dry, Dry, Dry!

To answer your question thesmokingtexan, from personal experience I find that the moister the tobacco, the more steam is produced while I'm smoking, which will lead to a wetter, hotter, and less flavorful smoke. Now, I agree, not all blends need to be dried so much, if at all. I do find however...

    First Bowl Of Crown Achievement.

I've had a few of those pipe smoking experiences while lunting, and let me tell you what, those were frustrating times. But those perfect smokes where all the stars seem to align more than make up for it :puffy: I've yet to try CA, but I've heard mixed things. It will definitely be one to try...

    Birthday Celebration

A very Happy Birthday to you sir, great choice with the Auchentoshen by the way :puffy: Which line of their's was it? My favorite is the Three Wood, although I recently had a dram of the 18 year that was excellent.

    Baki?

Very high quality meerschaums, the B&M I used to work at stocked them exclusively.

    Dry, Dry, Dry!

Gonna be short and sweet folks, my biggest piece of advice I can give to new smokers is to dry your tobacco out before you smoke it! My preference is just a tad crispy, but not brittle. Makes the pipe smoke cooler, taste sweeter, and stay lit longer. And I find the easiest and fastest way to...

    Back Pain

I've suffered from back pain for pretty much my whole life. I was born with minor Scoliosis and as a result walk a little but crooked, causing strain on my knees and lower to mid back. When I was a teenager I played football for a number of years, as an offensive guard and defensive tackle. For...

    New Pipe solves 3 needs

If those pipes that cortez linked are the ones that you purchased, I wish you the best of luck. I used to work at a tobacconist, and the only people that bought those pipes were marijuana smokers who enjoyed the aesthetic. Almost all the pipes we received from the distributor came with extremely...

    Wife hates Latakia smell

I would just explain to her how big a part of your life pipe smoking is becoming, and a part of that means trying out many, many different tobaccos. If Latakia based blends end up being some of your favorite, don't back down. Obviously don't smoke them all the time just to spite her, but she'll...

Well, The Wisdom Teeth Are Out

Appointment was at 9:00 this morning, only took about twenty minutes for the whole thing from start to finish. I've never been put to sleep before, so for me it was the strangest sensation, one second I was talking to the surgeon, and the next I was out cold, but the next second I was waking up...
