Any word of advice for smoking FVF by Samuel Gawith?

I find SG flakes in general too difficult to fold'n'stuff so I always rub them out. I found that there is quite a bit of variation in the thickness of the actual flakes, so the thinner ones might be easier to fold. Whatever you do, always dry them out before smoking, otherwise the are absolutely...

My new Pete arrived !! (pic heavy)

Absolutely fantastic 999 you have there! I love everything about it, the finish, the lucite stem, the silverwork... flawless!

    Beginning Pipe Making

The best infos you could possibly find on making your own pipes is on pipemakersforums.com And I'd suggest starting with briar as well, it's an incredibly hard wood and turns completely different compared to other readily available woods.

    Aromatic Tobacco

I'd second the vote for McClelland Deep Hollow. Very nice and sweet tobacco with a lovely room note. This particular tobacco hasn't been sauced to death as well so you still get a lovely VA taste.

    Experimenting with New Camera

Sorry for replying so late, mate. I posted that pic on Smokers Forums some time ago, but there is no special story involved, it's a regular Tsuge Fatboy. Maybe you have it confused with Huub's, who had a custom blue stem made for his and opened the draw a bit on the mouthpiece (which I plan to...

    Favorite pipe shape ?

I'll vote for Rhodesians as well, with the Peterson 999 shape in particular and if possible, a chubby pre-republic one. mmmmhhhhh, curvy :worship:

    In Praise of Peterson.

Gotta join the choir in singing the praise. Even though I have had some issues with the engineering of some of their pipes, I am totally in love with their spigots, silver caps and system pipes. And cleaning the system pipes with a cotton swab makes it much easier than with folded pipe cleaners.

    Experimenting with New Camera

I got myself one of those cheap shadowboxes as well and I like them a lot. It's much easier to direct the light and to avoid distracting reflections with them. Get yourself one of those, a cheap tripod and start shooting away!

There goes my favorite pipe.... :)

Awesome, you put speed holes in your pipe

Why does Mcclellands smell like ketchup?

I could very well imagine, that at least the acidic part of the signature McClelland tin note is due to a bit of vinegar being added at some point in the process, but I don't know it for a fact. What I do know is that this particular aroma does not translate into the smoke and especially the...

All the best, and a speedy recovery to you!

What do YOU miscriates do in those moments of greavous gurgling?

What withnail said, basically. Sometimes, when I'm outside, nobody is watching and I'm smoking a straight pipe I give it a quick flick to remove excess moisture from the smoke channel. But I do suspect that this is very bad pipe etiquette, so I wouldn't advise doing that in company.

My new Peterson St. Patricks Day 2011!

A very attractive pipe, well done!

What is the ingredient in pipe tobacco and cigars... that causes the dizziness?

Oh yes, delicious, delicious nicotine *drools* I'll second what has been mentioned before, smoke slow, put the pipe down if you feel queasy and avoid nic-heavy blends such as Royal Yacht, or any twists and ropes for that matter.

If You Could Only Smoke One Brand . . .

Have you ever tried the Dunhill DeLuxe Navy Rolls? Very, very nice VaPer, as far as I know it's identical to Escudo Navy Rolls.

    The "Ultimate" New Dunhill Pipe?

That particular pipe looks alright, but too pricey for me. At one point I will have to add a Dunhill to my collection as well, just to see what the hype is all about. But I'll probably go the estate route.

    Straight pipe or Curved pipe?

Mostly bent pipes so far. The only straight ones I have (except for my Stanwell featherweight Poker) are the self carved ones.
