    New Turned Tamper

Bought a wood lathe a while ago and I've been super lazy. Got off my butt and made a tamper last week and thought I'd share. Also just ordered some chuck jaws to turn briar, so pipes are on the horizon. Sorry for the poor pic.

    Russian PAD

I've been thinking about collecting Russian carvers lately. Here's my second Russian pipe, this one is made by Andrey Cherepanov. I believe its one of his earlier works since it's marked "GNOM". He and his brother Sergey started sharing the same "Cherepanov" stamp recently(please correct me if...

    Senatorov Self-Gift

Picked up a Sergey Senatorov pipe from ebay for a great price. His stem work is very unique. Here are some of the vendor's photos. Anyone else around here have one in their collection?

Does anyone around here have or smoke pipes with an oval bowl? What are your thoughts on them? Do they build cake evenly?

    My Turn! RAD PAD

I've been jealous of all this RAD PAD going on and now mine is on the way! A few months ago I had comissioned a pipe from Rad. I asked for a brandy/rhodesian/bulldog shape with an inlay of some kind on the stem. Just got an email saying it was finished. Obligatory pipe porn:

Anyone collect or have pipes made by Russian artists? My favorite pipe is a PS Studio, and I'm curious who else enjoys Russian pipes.

    Turned Some Tampers!

Ordered a lathe the last week in November and finally got it last week. Here are my first two turnings, the first one is a zebrawood "baseball bat" tamper and the second is a curly maple pawn. The Pawn was a pain, it broke off before I had a chance to finish it so I had to improvise with a jamb...

    PAD and More

Today I attended the Seattle Pipe Club Annual Dinner. Had a great time, ate great food with great people, had a chance to meet Russ Ouilette. The event included an auction, where last year I had missed out on a Rad Davis pipe at a bargain, so this year I was more prepared. I managed to score a...

    Strange Taste to Second Bowl

Do any of you get a strange taste after smoking a Lat blend then a burley or virginia blend? I've noticed this on a few occasions. First time was after having some SPC Mississippi River then Some E. Hoffman Distinguished Gentleman. The taste is hard to describe and, to me, not very pleasant. The...

    Got a Lathe Today

Got an email last week from the woodcraft store for a lathe that was 200 dollars off. So long story short, I think my first few projects will be tampers. They were out of stock so I'll get to pick it up in a week or so.

    Stiff Pipes

I was browsing the internet earlier and came across a post on a gear blog. They claim it's the first plastic pipe. What about "the pipe", "venturi" and "the smoke" pipes?

New Spot for My Pipes and Tobacco

My pipes and tobaccos were taking over my desk so today I snagged a cabinet from the big box store. I used to have my unopened tins in a file drawer and now I have 3 shelves. I think a little TAD might be in order. How many spots have your collections outgrown?

    Military Mount Question

Is there a specific term for the type of military mount seen here? Specifically the way the briar is reinforced with a metal ring, not a ferrule but inlaid into the briar. I'll try to find a clearer picture.

    Dunhill Inner Tube Questions

I've got a dunhill ODB 837 (Small 01 after MADE IN ENGLAND and an Oval Dunhill logo), I'm curious if anyone knows if this is an inner tube pipe. The bottom of the bowl seems a little strangely shaped and the airway in the tennon has a small step. Does anyone have an inner tube and can give me a...

    Help With Dunhill Nomenclature

Can someone enlighten me on the "ODB" category of Dunhills? I know Dunhill uses group sizes, but I've also read that they have an "ODA" size for their large pipes. Are "ODB" pipes even larger?
