Washington Smoking in Public Laws: Any advice for enjoying a smoke?

The Seattle pipe club holds their meetings in Fife. Quite a drive from Bellingham, but there you are. I smoke in my house and occasionally park somewhere in the mountains with a nice view and smoke in my car.

    Nicotine or Relaxation?

If a tobacco without nicotine delivered the same flavor and burn qualities, I would smoke it. As it is, nicotine is probably part of the pipe smoking experience for me though I can't say I've ever known or cared. I've certainly had blends that were too high in nicotine for me to enjoy, but...

What Foodstuffs Best Define the Place Where You Live?

Around here it's probably salmon and geoduck.

    Any Castello Comparable pipes?

I would say that Castellos are exceptionally good pipes. Several recommendations already given, such as Ser Jacopo, are worthy of consideration. If what you're looking for though is more of a "knock around" pipe, you might like a Savinelli or a Brebbia. If you're considering an "estate" pipe...

    Newcomer from Canada

I would definitely agree that briar is the way to go. As for stem material, acrylic is fine though often less comfortable than vulcanite. Acrylic tends to be thicker and a little harder against the teeth. Vulcanite will oxidize, which may require some maintenance, but don't rule it out. I would...

    Small Crack in the Mortise

Have a repair band fitted and don't insert the stem until that's been done.

    Hello from Slaughterville, Oklahoma

Welcome from Washington state. I think the name of your town may just surpass Bug Tussle and Humansville.

With What are You Lighting Up?

I have two Corona Old Boys (kept in different rooms) two Zikar Scribes, a Zippo with a butane insert for indoors and a fuel insert for outside. Also a Xikar Pipemaster and various matches, disposables and even some hemp wick!

    What are You Reading Now?

I'm working my way through a series of books by Seth Hunter. They are set in the Napoleonic era and concern the adventures of a British sea captain. In the vein of Patrick Obrian's works. The action is rousing and the detail incredible. Not so much of the nautical terminology or the intense...

Tried it once. Might as well have been chewing on a truck tire.

What do You See in this Pipe?

My wife (who used to help me select pipes back when we had B&M tobacconists) saw the pipe on my computer screen and immediately said "that's a beautiful pipe, you should buy it!" Whatever you say dear.

    Old Humidors

I have five. One Comoy with a spider closure, a Savinelli ceramic, a square glass and a cast iron that I don't use much. My nicest is a heavy cut crystal with a silver lid featuring three crossed churchwardens for a handle.

    Oldest Smoked Tobacco...

I'm currently smoking a tin of Samuel Gawith's Commonwealth mixture which is 22 years old. It's a blend containing 50% latakia and is quite good. I found fresh tins to be a little too heavy for me, but with this much age it seems to have smoothed out and the latakia has perhaps faded slightly...

Father the Flame Movie/Doc- Released to streaming

Thanks for posting about this. While I can say I'm glad I watched it, I'm equally glad I didn't pay to see it.

    Super Sunday Pipes!

I'm smoking a Ser Jacopo prince after the game. I didn't smoke while watching because my son in law came over to watch it with me on the big screen TV and he doesn't care for my English blends. Since he gave me the TV and helped me mount it on the wall and replaced the power supply in my...

    Dunhill Shells

Prior to about 1963 Dunhill used Algerian briar for the Shell finish pipes. The softer wood allowed the gnarly blast of those earlier pipes. After the revolution they were not able to source that wood any longer, or so I understand.

Only Known Photo of me Smoking. Circa 1989.

I remember the Tinderbox in Southcenter very well. It was owned by Paul Reasoner (Harry Reasoner, the CBS anchorman's brother). He sold me my first good pipe, a Charatan Belvedere Prince. I still enjoy that pipe!
