    Grief, Anger, and Cooperation

Whoa! Sorry :-( This is why I’m reticent to join forums. Apparently I’ve violated some unwritten rule. Oh well... back to lurking. Adios!

    Pipe Cleaner Organizer

Haa! That’s a slick idea. I normally carry cleaners/tools/lighters, etc. in a canvas attaché bag. Everything just stuffed in. I like it.

    Grief, Anger, and Cooperation

mso489 is right on the money. This is indeed a golden era. So very many great, no, phenomenal blends. Too many to count really. I miss Mcclelland but whatcha gonna do? My two cents says stock up a bit. The smoking Nazis aren’t going to stop. And while I’m not in the tobaccopocalypse crowd, I...

    Smoking around others/in public

When I first stared I wouldn’t dare go around other people! I’d slip down to the local cigar lounge, grab a stick, and carefully watch the old timers smoke their pipes. Then I’d go home and try to emulate them. Man I made every mistake you could make. I did start with a cob because I wasn’t sure...

Do you use to remove the stem to clean your pipe?

Oh, sorry: stems. Yes, I remove mine on cleaning day.

Do you use to remove the stem to clean your pipe?

I’m with Spartacus. I let ‘em pile up (no more than four, maybe five smokes per briar - all rested for a couple days between smokes) and have a cleaning day. Some folks claim to like it, I personally don’t, but I’m sure to do a good job. Hmm. Now there’s a business idea: “Sweetie would you pick...

    Grief, Anger, and Cooperation

Well d**n. I’m reminded of my very last tins of FM OTT and Cellar. One of each. I honestly can’t decide whether or not to open them. I wish I’d seen it coming, just like I wish I’d stocked up on Penzance. Not that I was ever head-over-heels for it, but have y’all seen the prices it’s listed at...

Anyone else not smoking as much because of the cold?

Winters for me are love/hate. Hate because I can’t smoke if it’s too cold, but my English, Balkan’s, lat-forward blends are blissful when it’s cooler. I enjoy burleys more also. Come warmer weather I retreat to Va/Pers and lighter English. Oddly, I enjoy strong cigars more during the summer. In...

Anyone else not smoking as much because of the cold?

I’m on a forced sabbatical due to outside temps. I’ve a window this afternoon and tomorrow. Loaded a MM Freehand with Morley’s Best, and another cob to sample a new-to-me C&D blend: Stratfordshire. I’ll pick a briar set for the Strat after a few bowls in a cob.

    Dedicating pipes to certain blends

Count me with the genre dedicators, with two notable exceptions: I’ve a briar dedicated to Quiet Nights, and one to Haddo’s Delight.

Limit number of bowls to smoke per day in one pipe to avoid issues

Haa! I was in all seriousness joking! :-) Big dollar purchases like I’d make for a Dunhill would be spent on something like a firearm in my case. I don’t have any pipes that I’ve spent over a couple hundred bucks on... yet...

    Clean pipe without pipe cleaner

Sorry about that; I saw that you’ve got the chamber and shank covered - so strike that from my post. I was thinking over the entire clean from step one :-) But yeah, I’d try the water metod and see if you can obtain a small plastic bristle brush.

    Clean pipe without pipe cleaner

OP, I’ve been thinking on this one a bit. For the chamber I’d likely use a few Q tips with a light touch soon after the smoke and of course after you’ve got your ideal cake set. Another idea I had was some soft wadded up toilet tissue. You’re covered for the shank as well with those Q tips. Can...

Limit number of bowls to smoke per day in one pipe to avoid issues

My uhh... Dunhill *ahem* is my knock around pipe. You know, I throw it in the glovebox of my truck and fish it out on occasion when I’m having a dizzy spell or am otherwise not worried about accidentally dropping it. My others brand pipes, especially my high dollar Missouri Meerschaums, get a...

Love/Hate Blends That You Love or Hate, and Why?

hawkey454 - that’s what I was going for but I was kind of vague about it :-) ETA: it took me a bit, but I got to where I love Haddo’s. I’ve got 8oz that’s aged for close to six years. I’m curious to break into it but I’ve got a current stock of it which keeps me honest.

How Many of You Lucky Dogs Get to Smoke Inside?

I’ve been wanting to screen in at least half of our back deck for years. Set me up a kerosene heater and I’d be set! Best yet, when I don’t want company I can fire up some Pirate Kake. That’s a sure-fire way I’ve found to run off family members who want to sit with me and chat when I want to...

It’s peculiar posting here after lurking for sooo long

I feel like I kind of know a lot of y’all after lurking here so long. It’s odd to post as a new guy and get responses from people who have posted so many replies that I’ve read. Anyway, I’m early retired so I’m trying to be more sociable since I don’t get to go to work and run my yap. Anyone...

Hi! Looong time lurker, decided to join :-)

Haven’t checked back in a bit, sorry. I’m a Tennessee boy of many generations, going back to settlers in the late 1700’s, after the Revolution. Most of my great greats were burley farmers, as it grows really well in Middle TN. I worked burley one summer back in the 80’s - hardest manual labor...

Love/Hate Blends That You Love or Hate, and Why?

Oops - I probably should have put this in the tobacco discussion thread, not review. My bad. New to forum, but that no excuse - I’ll be more careful in the future :-)
