Did You Lose Your Taste for Aromatics Over Time?

Mostly Latakia blends from GLP and Dunhill, and concoctions from Craig Tarler (night train, ojk, old Hollywood, Mississippi mud etc) for a long time. Then got into aromatic lakelands like 1792 and Emmerdale. Never had another aromatic I enjoyed until I had a few from KBV. Then I started to...

    Aging and Pricing Thoughts

Respectfully, the intermediary is not the point at all is it? Reseller or not....same topic. Someone is buying a scarce thing, and selling the stuff they purchased (or hoarded) at a profit. That appears to be the issue that bothers some folks. I didn't see anyone suggesting that the tobacco's...

    Aging and Pricing Thoughts

Wine ages and people have wine cellars. Tobacco ages and people have tobacco cellars. Not really sure what the big difference is. Now most people with a wine cellar share their wine with others at dinner so presumably they go through a little bit more than they might go through by themselves...

    Cringle Flake

I got several tins. ( I do every year) And loved the '23. Very slow burn, no bite...and no mold on the one I opened. A great outdoor smoke... maybe because of the slow burn, and perhaps due to the rich flavor that I enjoyed even with a new england wind blowing.

How Many Blends in Your Cellar?

Same as most here...who knows. Been 25+ years of tad. Silly, but fun and I like the aged blends. Hard part is making space for new tins. High class problem...I know.

    I Don't Like Too Dry

Not bone dry for me. Pinch the tobacco...if it breaks it's too dry for me. If it sticks and unravels, we're close. Too moist is no good. To dry, same. Goldilocks just right. Lol. U know it when you have it.

    1995 Christmas Cheer

And, we did. Not once month, but more infrequently. The tobacco was carefully sealed each time. And the result was...I wish I had more. It's really great and the enjoyment had not diminished. It was a useful experiment. I have more old CC tins and have confidence I can enjoy them without...

Why do You Smoke a Pipe?

Lots of reasons. Tastes great, less filling. Zero calories. Requires some skill to do it right.Good blends and good pipes are art. Most normal people love the aroma. It's contemplative and focusing in a world more than ever filled with various noise. Good pipes and good tobacco (probably moreso)...

    Watch City Va/Pers

R&B is quite solid, and zero bite..

The Famous or Infamous You have Met

A few come to mind. Ace Frehley back in the 80's, he lived in the same town as me in CT at the time, and he had a garage sale. I purchased a guitar and a banjo. He signed the banjo for me, and at the time...no face paint. A bit later in college in NY I met Al Lewis at his restaurant (Grandpa's)...

    Tom Eltang Knife Pipe

Thank you. Leveling the chamber when lighting is not too hard I suppose, but sounds inconvenient to me. Interesting to hear it's not necessary. The remainder of the smoke I imagine the ashes-end (?) pointing straight out horizontal or down, and the heat going towards the top of the bowl. That's...

What Type of Stems do You Prefer?

Anything but vulcanite, and most of my pipes have vulcanite stems. They are nuisance to keep clean...

    Tom Eltang Knife Pipe

I've always liked the looks of horns. Never purchased one because of the forward cant and what I believe is a very real concern about charring the top edge of the bowl. Anyone with any experience used this shape in the past with good results? Pretty fancy pipe by the way! Did you buy it?

Do You have a Pipe You can’t Bring Yourself to Smoke?

I have a few. More than a few, but I had bad PAD for a few years and scored some beautiful carved pieces. Like the one in my avatar, the Talbert Cote Sauvage, a commission. Trevor knocked it out of the park. Plan to smoke that if I ever get a beach house and have the time to truly enjoy it...

    Commission Question

Pay the price and done. You can pay more of course, but this carver is not a waiter getting $2 an hour and living off tips. And, the carver may not be wealthy, and the work may be worth more, but he/she set the price presumably. But you can still be nice, and promote the person, and send tobacco...

Opening Jar of Aged Tobacco: How Long Could it Last?

I generally divide larger tins into smaller jars, but not always. I opened a tin of '96 Xmas cheer 2 years ago and put it all in a mason jar. It was marvelous when opened. I rarely smoke it, but it's been marvelous since. I have a bit left. And, if you seal well and leave it closed, I believe...

    What’s Your Storage Preference?

Just a wood humidor. I have a little one that my wife got me when we were married 30+ years ago, 25 + cigars. And a big one I got years later that can hold maybe 200 ish. I like the idea of Mason jars but don't know because I have some sense that the cigars need some air exchange and the wood...

Which GL Pease Should I Buy?

Greg has so many bends. I've not had them all despite my administration for Greg. Can't smoke that much... But these are memorable for me: Samarra Abingdon Key Largo Haddos (especially with age) Quiet Nights Tribute (the ones that survived rust...not anyone's fault) Stonehenge

    Cellars & Cellaring? ☕️

Seems many good blends hit the shelves regularly enough, I don't think it's the end of the world in that regard. But pipe tobacco is like wine (sorta) and some vintages will be different. It's a hobby, and I still buy because I'm interested not because I think it will no longer be available...

    Peterson My Mixture 965

Not much experience with emp, but 965 is a classic marvelous blend. One of my favorites and I enjoy sweet Latakia blends. I've not had the Peterson version...I have a reasonable cellar and don't smoke much, but I hear it's the same as it has been in the past. It's not a nicotine bomb to me.
