HELP.. I ran into these pipes and need some input.

I suspect they are from the far East, Cambodia or Thailand. Designed for smoking Hash or Opium. Just a guess, but I think pretty close. Chinese pipes for that purpose are not that ornate. Thai and cambodian temples can be quite ornate.

Can Someone Tell Me about My Pipe Louis Fiolet

That is one beautiful pipe! Lonestar is right, keep it as a family heirloom, which it is of course it is.

Can Someone Tell Me about My Pipe Louis Fiolet

Also on the meerschaum, check inside the case for any old stickers that might give a clue as to the maker.

Can Someone Tell Me about My Pipe Louis Fiolet

Be very careful handling the amber stem. They are quite fragile. It is probably attached to the pipe with a double bone screw.

Can Someone Tell Me about My Pipe Louis Fiolet

The pipe with the amber stem has to be quite old. The amber dates it to early 1900's and the black looks like it is colored from smoking. I do not think I have ever seen coloring that dark. Someone smoked it a lot for a long time!

Can Someone Tell Me about My Pipe Louis Fiolet

Tessa, Look closely at the metal. If it is silver there might be a hallmark, sometimes very small! The stem on the skull pipe looks like cherry wood. Metal looks like it has a pattern, usually found on silver bands.

I Got Two in View but I Can't See that Far

The pipe you show, is a cross grain. In the pic you are looking at the end of the grain(birdseye). Front and back of the bowl should have fairly straight grain laying on it's side. Far side should be more birdseye. Gary

    Pipe Bags

NASPC used to have leather pipe bags made up imprinted with their name. They sold them for $6 each. I got 36 of them and have never had a problem with any of them. I do not know if they still do that.

Help with bone stem meerschaum please

What works with most things that are seized pretty tight is to put the pipe in the freezer for about 1/2 hour. Take it out and then try removing the stem. Got that from Uncle Arthur.
