    Love That Brand

I'll venture an answer of "A". Not so much a special sauce, but maybe a combination of leaf source, processing and, well maybe special sauce. A few generalizations, some more accurate than others: The Lakeland companies tend to steam-press their leaf, and sourced from Brazil and Africa, that...

    New Old Piper

Hello all, I was a regular in the 90's and early 2000's of ASP, in the wonderful days of Greg Pease, Mark Tinsky, Paul Szabady and other luminaries. I wrote a few hundred reviews in the then-new tobaccoreviews archives. I experienced the blossoming and tragic passing of Syrian Latakia in the...

    Fraudulent eBay sellers...PLEASE BEWARE

Do you mean "doesn't Paypal protect you?" Um, no. :)

    Olive Wood Pipe

I bought one in Jamaica, and it didn't look ANYTHING like that beauty. 'Course it only cost 4 dollars, so ...

Help me find my Grandfathers tobacco

Admiral's Choice gets my vote. It is also 1/2 of the recipe of an ASP recipe favorite called, I think, "Cajun Half n Half", which was 1 part Admiral's Choice to 1 part McClelland 5100 Red Cake.

Is McClelland producing under other labels these days?

Here is the McClelland Brindle Flake Revival cite: http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/3953/mcclelland-brindle-flake

Is McClelland producing under other labels these days?

Deniz, Ashton Brindle Flake was an extremely good Virginia. My TobaccoReview.com review of it back in 2003 was: "If you like McClelland Virginias, you shouldn't pass this stuff by. Pipe-legend Paul Szabady identified Brindle Flake as the most full-flavored of the McC #2010 - McC #22 - Brindle...

    Dunhill Substitutes

Robert McConnell Original Oriental is quite close to EMP. Not perfect, but enough so that I and several other reviewers on TobaccoReviews.com noted the similarity. http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/974/robert-mcconnell-original-oriental#review2741

    Any old ASP members here

I'm new on this forum, but had many good years on the old Alt.Smokers.Pipes (ASP) Bulletin Board group (I know that lots of you young guys don't even know what a Bulletin Board group was ....) Any old ASPers in here (other than Greg Pease ...)?

    Tung Oil, Yes or No

We treated our floors with it and had to vacate the house for a few days. I wouldn't smoke out of something treated with it.

So sad. My heart goes out to our soldiers and their families.

    FDA delays deeming regulation

I'm not a vaper, but I still don't understand how vaping can be banned in the absence of second hand smoke. I mean, to prevent people's use of a legal substance based on location of use in the absence of proof of harm to others is pretty much unconstitutional. Uh, wait. I forgot the...

Finland Aims to Eradicate Pipe-Shaped Candies

You have to give Finland props for fending off Russia in WWII. Tough people. But this? Have they banned soap bubble pipes too?

Is McClelland producing under other labels these days?

During my earlier pipe days, McClelland produced tobaccos for PCCA, Butera and Ashton. Butera's Blended Flake and Ashton Brindle Flake were amazing, as was PCCA Millennium. Does McClelland manufacture for other tobacco labels these days?

Miyagi's Mindfulness - Short Review And Availability Questions

I never was a C&D fan, but I got several bulk blends in a trade several years ago, and with a few years age, some of their blends are amazing. And they are usually much less than $11/oz!

NY Pipe Show - March 2017 (Newark, NJ) Pix & Reports

I've been to this show several times, but not recently. Can you rent a table and sell vintage jarred tobaccos? I've got lots of blends going back to the late 90's!

    The Savinelli Billiards

I've got more Savs than any other pipe in my collection. A straight Sav Second billiard was my first pipe, and still one of my favorites!

In Defense of the Homely Poker

The poker is one of my all-time, least-favorite shapes. Seems like the inventor of the shape chopped off a branch, hollowed it out, then pulled through a stem. On the other hand, they sit politely, so that's a star in their favor!
