How I Break In A New Pipe

I take the pipe and load it up with tobacco and get it good and lit. Then I put a wind cap on it and get into my car. I smoke it as I get on to the highway and I roll down the window... Then roll the pipe up into the window with the stem sticking inside the car and the bowl facing forward. I...

    Shaking Your Ash?

Once I started tapping out ash as I smoke my bowls have started tasting much better. (and they were good to begin with) I now have one of those ash trays with a cork in it... and I tap out ash now and then so all I have on top are the embers. Cool ash has to go.

    Is Cake Important? Why?

I keep my pipe CLEAN! I use dry pipe cleaners after every smoke and ream it with a paper towel. At least once a year I clean it with vodka until I can't get any more pipe-juice out of those pours. The only thing I want in my pipe is briar and fresh tobacco. So no cake for me. I used to try...

What Online Retailers Do People Like?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob I always liked going into a store... especially because I can browse the pipes and discover one that I didn't know I needed. LOL! It was great when I was in NJ and I had JR Cigar... but in Las Vegas I'm not near any stores (though there...

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

In any case it may be a good thing. I have a literal butt-load of tobacco en-route to me now, and I'm kind of looking forward to that. I'm sure they won't all be winners but im sure to like most of them.

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

Fair enough. Perhaps my title was overly dramatic. I was being cute. Tbh I started smoking a pipe only a few years ago... McClelland was one of my first, it was great, and I stopped there. Perhaps less because McClelland was great (bc I'm no expert) and more a combination of being both contented...

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

I just bought a buttload of tobacco on that offer.. funny,.. that offer of free shipping got me shopping.... and I bought over $100 of tobacco.. which would be free shipping anyway. Great marketing on their part, LOL!

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

Thanks all of you guys... I'm glad to have some recommendations. When you go on "pipesandcigars.com" and search for Virginia's it's hard to know where to start. I've noticed and have been considering many of the ones that I see mentioned here. Hearing that others like them makes it easier to...

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

That's what Ive been reading... They were truly unique. What if I narrow it down.... Are there any standouts in Virginia department? Not necessarily just like McClelland... But anything near that level when it comes to Virginia's?

    Life After McClelland.. Any Suggestions?

I was always overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of tobaccos to choose from. I found McClelland. Tried a few other things and just decided that I didn't need to bother looking any further. And I go online to order more tobacco and find they are no more.... So I'm looking for suggestions. I'm...

Wood at the Bottom of Missouri Meerschaum Bowls

I've definitely smoked a little wood once or twice. Not the best taste but not the worst. It's ok. After a few smokes the heat chars the wood and the risk is gone. What bothers ME is that you can neither smoke all of the tobacco surrounding that wood bit nor can you really clean it all out...

Why Do Virginias Taste Harsh to Me?

Yeah... when i pulled them apart into a ribon i just got a nice smoke. Perhaps it was easier to keep lit.

Why Do Virginias Taste Harsh to Me?

I actually didnt dry them this time... but i usually do for like 20 minutes and they still bit in the past. So going forward ill age and then dry a bit

Why Do Virginias Taste Harsh to Me?

Ahhh.. and when you say "let the sit and age"... You mean aged in sealed tins/jars... where im not opening it in between? Good to know... i can do that... i can jar this up and i do have plenty else to smoke in the mean time... including virginias aged from 6 months ago and other non virginias..

Why Do Virginias Taste Harsh to Me?

Yeah MSO... i think its number 3.. perhaps tge burleys and Cavendishs didnt compell me to puff as much. I do like filters.. hopefully ill be able to work a filter back in. Kanse.. yeah... i bought the navy and the blackwoods months ago... by now they've aged 6 months in mason jars.... maybe the...

Why Do Virginias Taste Harsh to Me?

Obviously its all personal preference but ive read that virginias are generally more mild. Ive really enjoyed stanwell fruit and vanilla, macbaren vanilla and mcclelland bombay extra (an aromatic burley/Cavendish, an aromatic Cavendish and an english) But mcclelland navy Cavendish, blackwoods an...
