    Stuck On Virginia

Are many of us almost only straight Virginia smokers? I was wondering how many of us, and I was wondering if many arrived there after loving a wide variety over a long time. Never saw it coming, but I’ve stopped my usual rotation of genres. I used to rotate VAs, VaPers, Burley & Burley blends...

    Orlik Golden Sliced Tin Seal

With this drying up I bought a few 3.5oz tins. Are these sealed like regular round tins? I didn't feel like I got the normal pop when I opened the first one - but the moisture level was perfect. Just wondering if I need to open them all and jar them and don't want to experiment with popping...

    New Legislation In NC?

A Florida shop told me they can’t ship to me in NC because of tax law changes. I’ve been ordering g from all over the place in the past. Has something new been legislated?

I Feel Good Today! Is it Because of Old Joe Krantz?

Is it because Cotinine, found in tobacco like OJK, is currently being studied as a treatment for depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease? Or is it just a nice day after a whopper bowl of OJK?

Latakia Burnout - How Long does it Last?

Title edited: Capitalize important words. -jpm Four years, for me, apparently. Swore it off and almost traded it all away several times. Happily now exploring my old jars. If you’re there too, hang on to those English and other lat blends. I thought I was done with latakia forever.

Gawith & Hoggarth in the states?

Is anyone finding Gawith & Hoggarth in the states? I managed a lb of Kendal Dark (Watch City) but would love to find some Grasmere Flake and Ennerdale. Most places I used to buy from no longer export to the states, German sites I know are out of everything too.

    Square Tins Staying Sealed

I recently opened a square tin of Solani to find it dry, that it had not sealed the moisture in. Then I remembered that Solani may be noted for that - no tin of Silver I ever bought was sealed. I have a few square tins of Mac Baren Navy Flake dating back to January 2019, just popped one and it...

How Many Blends Do You Have Stored?

106 - can you believe it? I have at least 106 blends jarred. That's not counting a couple of big jars holding multiple ziplocks of stuff I didn't value very much. That would easily number it over 120. How many in your cellar are regular smokes? Maybe 12 for me.

    Your Favorite Navy Flake

On another thread I don’t see a lot of love for Mac Baren Navy Flake. I do love it, but maybe need to branch out. I’ve tried a few, what’s your favorite Navy Flake? I’ve tried the Stokkebye flakes. Maybe these are not true navy flakes, but I also love: speakeasy, blockade runner, Salty dog...

Vanilla Flake VS Vanilla Cream Flake

This may be common knowledge, sorry if so. But I was wondering and asked Mac Baren to get this reply. Also, an official ‘Thanks’ to Hawky for pointing me to this blend. (A year ago when I was posting about not liking Aros Hawky advised it was OK to be Aro curious, and that Vanilla Flake might...

First Time I Bought A Pound

So, I just received the first pound I ever bought. Whew! That's a little bit of tobacco! Jarred it up and I should be set a while on this blend!

    Canadian?

I decided to try to make a Canadian, I’m not positive it’s a true Canadian with the stem being so large. It’s 7.5” overall, so it’s a big pipe with a 7/8 x 1 5/8 chamber. The briar has a few pits, my intention was to rusticate it, but I went with a natural wax only smooth finish anyway. I got a...

    Pipe Smoking Must-Do Experiences

What do I need to include to have a complete piping experience? I’ve smoked briar, olive wood, morta, meerschaum, and cobs should it be mandatory to include a clay? and certain mainstays? Like I’ve smoked many English and Italian brands for instance, but never a Dr Graybow

    Mastro De Paja Bella Rustic

I bought one of these Mastro De Paja Bella Rustic pipes the other week. They were pretty inexpensive at $60. I have to say, even though it was cheap and had a bowl coating, it smoked well from the the first bowl. That’s from someone that immediately removed all coatings for years. After 3 or 4...

    Olive Wood Billiard

So I liked my first Olive wood experiment. So I decided to have another go and that I didn't really have a plain billiard - and so, a simple billiard. I uploaded two photos since the light makes such a huge difference. It's 6" long, 1.75" diameter with a 1.875" deep 20mm parabolic chamber. I'm...

    Puff The Magic Dragon

Puff was seen elsewhere on this forum recently so I thought I would load him up and post a photo of him carrying a few pipes as I threatened to do that day. Here he is with 10 pipes, the perches on each side of his nose are the ones I use most often when grilling - especially the one with the...

    My Biggazz Dublin

I had this giant piece of Makis, and I like big pipes…. so I had to make this biggazz Dublin. I had no choice in the matter - no say whatsoever. It’s almost 2.25” in diameter and a little over 7” long - not good for clenching. But I love it, I’ve been smoking it since I drilled it. It’s my first...

    Soft Briar?

I’ve seen a few debates in old strings. But I’m wondering, is there such thing as a soft piece of briar? I have one that I carved that’s degrading and seems to be burning inside - spiderweb looking cracks in a charred thin layer that comes off with a little scrape. I have 30 or pipes and have...

    My Olive Wood Experiment

I’m fine sanding with a block so far, have not gone high grit. I’m wondering about Olive Wood, I’ve only seen pics online. Do I need to go as smooth as I would for a smooth finished briar? Not sure if I’m going to use linseed oil or wax. Any recommendations? I’m wondering if the sanding is...

    My Fifth Carve

Here’s my 5th carve, just finished an hour or so ago. It’s sort of a canted Dublin. I was trying to do something a little different - The stem took considerable slimming down, it’s an acrylic grey with a lot of reflection in it. You can tell a little bit in the photo over a counter top. It...
