Coaxing Out Flavours with Food or Drink Pairings

I have been enjoying smoking Amphora Full Aroma for a while to get to know the blend. There is this delicious raspberry flavour that comes up every now and then, but is very hard to replicate reliably. I have found that if I take a sip of a peated whisky before sipping from my pipe, the...

How Large is Your Pipe Collection in Proportion to How Much You Smoke?

I have settled on 10 or so pipes that I really like and smoke regularly enough. I smoke on average about once a week, so about 50 bowls per year. That means that each pipe gets used on average 5 times per year. How does your pipe collection relate to how much you smoke? How many runs does each...

Do Lakeland Blends Ghost Each Other?

I’m excited to have samples on the way for Ennerdale, 1792 and Grousemoor to try some of the famous Lakeland blends. While all 3 are Lakeland blends, they are meant to be quite different from each other flavour wise. Would you smoke these blends out of the one dedicated pipe for Lakelands or...

Why Do Bamboo Shanks Not Count?

Can someone explain why a billiard with a long bamboo stem is not a lovat but a billiard? It's like the bamboo doesn't count when considering the length of the stem. Just a random example: https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/ashton/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=349642

Has anyone had a look at this year's entries? There are some interesting pieces. What's your favourite?

Show Us Your Most Quintessential Billiard Pipe

It is often said that the billiard is the most widely owned pipe shape. I don't have one in my collection, but may add a saddle billiard to my collection if the right one came around. I would love to see what you consider to be your most quintessential billiard pipe.

Erinmore Flake, Evil or Friendly Ghost

So I'm just about to smoke my first ever bowl of Erinmore Flake. It is said to leave a stubborn ghost. I'm thinking if the juicy-fruit-like topping is pleasant then I probably won't mind a friendly ghost lingering around, but if its nasty I may reconsider what pipe I'm going to smoke this in...

    Pipe Abuse?

I came across this photo of Donald Findlay, a well-known senior advocate and Queen's Counsel in Scotland. He appears to be smoking a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Hansom pipe that has had the rim set on fire repeatedly. He must take his charring light really seriously... Or do you reckon the pipe...

Show Off Your Werner Mummert Pipes

I just received my new Werner Mummert natural sandblasted bulldog from LePipe.it. Very much a bulldog in Mummert's signature style and I absolutely love it. Werner Mummert's pipes are quite divisive and not many members seem to have any. I would love to see yours.

How Effective Is The Reverse Calabash Design?

I see reverse calabash pipes from time to time and have always wondered how much of an improvement they make to the 'dryness' of the smoke. Is it 10%, 50%, 100%? And how would they compare to normal calabash pipes? Does anyone have any thoughts on this based on their experience?

    If Only I Had A Spare $2.5K...

I'm seriously drooling of this one. https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/manduela/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=407660

    Stacks

I don't own a stack. Am I missing out? Do they bring anything extra to the smoke?

    Bondage Pipe

What do you guys think of this pipe. It is not my thing but I think it is very skilfully done.

    Preferred SG Blend?

If you would have a choice between the following SG blends, which one would you pick and why? - Cabbies Mix - Full Virginia Plug - St James Flake - Best Brown Flake I'm thinking of picking up one of the above blends as an early birthday gift to myself and tobacco is expensive in Australia, so I...

    Warped Cigars

I'm intrigued by Warped cigars. Does anyone here smoke them? If so, how do you rate them?

    Breath Smoking Cigars

Does anyone do this? How do you coax the most flavour out of a cigar?

    Turning Around A Hot Smoke

When you start off a bowl smoking too fast and a bit too hot, do you feel you can turn it around into a great smoke mid bowl, or do you feel it can never be as good as starting off slow?

    Becker Pipes

I'm curious about the Becker pipe brand. Are the original Beckers still involved? From what I read, Paolo Becker passed away a while ago, so just wondering if this means that there are no new pipe models coming out or if there have been any other changes to the way they operate.

    New Moonshine Pipe

I have been eyeing the bent egg shape from Moonshine Pipes for a long time now. I was even thinking about contacting BriarWorks to ask if they could make me one to my specifications, sort of like a semi-custom pipe. I was very happy to see a number of bent egg shapes in stock at Smoking...

    Do You Dedicate Mason Jars?

I tend to keep empty mason jars after I finish a blend for the same blend later on. Do you do the same, or do you put different blends in after you finish a jar?
