Why Did you Start Smoking a Pipe, and Why Do You Still?

Interesting and true story. I was 10 y/o and walking to school one day, I stopped to watch 2 housepainters painting the front of a 2 story house. Both painters had on their white painter's overalls, and looked very professional. One of the painters came down from his ladder and stepped back to...

Pipe Smoking Image--Old vs. Young, Eccentric, Nostalgic or Strange????

I had my pipe with me in Iraq during Desert Storm. It was like having an old friend with me at all times.

Poll: Choice of two pipes. Which would you buy and why?

Neither is appealing to me, but my preference would lean more towards the Vauen because it's more traditional and a good sitter.

Hi All, I am going to put this out there for feedback from those who have experience or knowledge with this sort of thing, because quite frankly I don't get it. Some opinions and a hello after an absence.

Cobs are great! No worries about breaking em' in right or breaking them for that matter. Always available in my rotation for a cool, simple smoke. I've grown to enjoy the simple pleasures that the cob brings. However, I very much enjoy a good briar, say a 1940's vintage yello-bole or Kaywoodie...

    Replacing stem on Yello-bole

Hi Smokey, I came across this thread because I am in the process of restoring a 1940's era bent yello-bole I picked up on e-bay. It too had a blocked stem and I had to work on it for several hours to clear it. I soaked it and poked it, only to get small amounts of crud out, so I ended up...

    Topping a Cob

My 1940's yello-bole tops that cob! Your cob has character just the way it is, but topping it lightly can be done on a bench grinder with a fine stone wheel.
