***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Sutliff ERR, mixed with Sutliff TS-20 and a little 507S in this Sav Trevi 616 I got for cheap in an ebay deal with an Ascorti/LaSylvana Billiard. Both were caked to death. $20.00 for both. This one is my preference of the two.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Time to generate some pipe mud base. Cigar ash. Got a very nice latitude zero going.

Six More Pipes Added to the Stable

I've got a few old Linkman's and they're amongst my favorite pipes.

    The Bends in Pipes Defined?

If there is no deviation from 90 degrees in the shape of the shank, it's not a bent pipe, it's a bent stem. During my first few months of frenzied ebay pipe acquisitioning when I started smoking a pipe, I became 'creative' and used heat to bend a few stems on some of my pipes. I remember being...

How is D&R Ryback compared to Mac Baren Old Dark Fired?

Unfortunate that Picayune is no longer produced, as its strength alone will scratch any itch you may have. I found Ryback to be quite tasty and unlike chasing embers, nice and strong. Of course, about the only tobacco I don't enjoy is Half and Half.

    Nicotine or Relaxation?

For me it was late stage serendipity after a lifelong battle with nicotine addiction. Nicotine relaxes me. The pipe allows me to enjoy my nicotine better than any other 'delivery system' I've tried. (the not inhaling part was part of my initial learning process.)

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Match VIP in a MM 5th Ave 2nd (almost 10 yrs old) using a Cobbit Elf stem (the original). I enjoy all the Match blends I've tried thus far, which include, Field and Stream, B.S.O.M. (a balkan sobranie match) Victoria, (a Dunhill Elizabethan match) and ERR. I will bring in more, but each of these...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Sutliff Cherry Bon Bon in a no named Octagonal billiard with square-ish shank. This pipe is so ugly it's cute. I got it along with a pipe rack I bid on. Smokes well. Vulcanite stem, kinda thick, but it works.

Just Now Starting My Pipe Journey

I started pipe smoking after I retired. I've learned that I enjoy the taste of tobacco and that a blend I find not so good today, or vice versa, may affect me differently the next time I smoke it. I'm happy with various burleys and Virginias in various combination, and also enjoy perique and...

    Deep Cleaning Cob Pipes

Most of my cobs have filter accepting shanks, which I use without filters. Once in a great while, when I sense the need or feel ambitious, I remove the stem and work with Q-tips to clean out the gunk in the shank. Sometimes I use a Butner to remove excess cake in the bowl. Many times I've had to...

With What are You Lighting Up?

Wick on a stick. I have a large spool of hemp wick that I wind onto various debarked tree branch that I can use as a tamper too. I've been using a bic to light the wick.

    My Pride is Showing

Well, that's just to get you to look. This is about why I like the Missouri Meerschaum Pride model the best of my assorted MM cobs. It's lightweight. It's incredibly tactile! I imagine that it's how that suedeblast finish Walt Cannoy puts on some of his pipes feels. I suppose they make other...

Difference Between VA & Burley Nicotine Effects

I sometimes get too much nicotine which causes me to get the hiccups. It usually happens when my pipe is not breathing properly and I'm sucking on it harder than is optimal, often at the end of a pipe, just trying to get all its contents changed into ash. I have yet to turn green or to hurl...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

I haven't seen a post from mso489 in awhile. Where's old Tom? I sure hope he's well and enjoying a pipe. I'm starting today with some Sutliff Balkan Sobranie Match in a MM Pride with my Peterson Barrel's stem.

What Tobacco did your Ancestors Smoke?

My maternal Grandfather, Herb, used to take out this block of tobacco and a jackknife and carve off a pipeload into his hand, and rub it out some and load it into his pipe. The baccy was Days 'o Work. Dad typically smoked Camels and Luckies, and sometimes a pipe, but I don't know if he had a...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Sutliff Cherry Bon Bon in a Jamestown, London Pipe - a 296 (Canadian shape) This may be an aromatic, but it's not hot, goopy, or too light in the nicotine department. I got 4 oz of this to fulfill the requirements to receive a nice storage jar and a couple of free pouches for the Pipes and...

    Escudo Alternative

I like to buy bulk tobacco and mix my own. I think Firestorm might be considered a VaPer, and I've enjoyed that blend in years past. Way too pricey for my pocketbook now. Match Victoria is a decent alternative to the more expensive tinned VaPers.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2024?***

After I started smoking my first pipe, a New Legend from the corner drug store, I started hunting estate pipes for amusement. I'm smoking one of the first that I obtained via auction and it arrived with 4 other pipes, all still smokeable. This one is a St James London Pipe, which is actually a...
