So I Was Taking The Trash Out And….

Thanks AlaskaPiper....beautiful photography. Here in eastern Canada I'd seen them faintly a few times as a kid, just light hazes of green. When I moved to Northern Alberta in '02 for a teaching gig, I couldn't believe my eyes. The greens were so vivid but it was the pinks and purples that always...

    Hi From Eastern Canada

Hello Davy and welcome. I’ve been lurking here on and off for years. From central NB myself. Folks here are great and I’ve learned loads and am still learning even after 25 years smoking.

    Hello from Canada

Welcome from NB. And to echo what's been said before, stock up while you can. If it turns out you don't like something or its not to your taste, it makes good trading material down the road. If you like Balkans and more specifically English's, you may want to look at Samuel Gawith's tobaccos...

    Canoeing and Pipe Smoking

Yeah, I have a specific cob and an estate briar or two that are my 'boating' pipes. Even have a holster that the cob sits in on my belt (an antique shop find).

    Canoeing and Pipe Smoking

I lurk here regularly and post rarely, but thought the following worthwhile. While reading a canoeing classic, "Song of the Paddle" by Bill Mason, I came across a reference to the following 20 minute video done by the National Film Board of Canada in 1964. The story of Canada's Voyageurs who...

    Santa's Pipe

Beautiful pipe in of it itself. The accompanying story and fact it was made by a friend make it all the more special. I really think the stain highlights the Christmas season. Enjoy it and something rich for a tobacco to christen it I would think...English Chocolate for my recommendation.

Very Fine Baccy at the Bottom of Jar

I do one of two things that have already been mentioned here. I'll toss it into a 'mixed bag' combination of tobaccos like mso489 mentioned or I'll use it to top off a bowl for a more even charring light. If I recall, I started that practice after having heard Brian mention it on the radio show...

    Dark Fired Kentucky Video

Fascinating. I find these so informative and educational. Thanks for sharing.

    Moose Camp Success!

Nice bull and a great rack. Congrats. Been watching all the moose that have been bagged here in eastern Canada. I envy your view.

    Outdoor Winter Tobacco

I have tried Balkan Delight once or twice. I think it would suit nicely. As I recall, a flavourful blend.

    Outdoor Winter Tobacco

My personal preference would be an english blend. Something with a fair proportion of latakia for a lunt on a winter's day. When I started out smoking pipes, I used to take walks in the winter of northern Alberta and my tobacco of choice was Samuel Gawith Commonwealth. Live on the east coast...

Question for You Guys that Listen to the Radio Show / Podcast

Automatic download on iTunes. I may not get to it within the week so I always have them in the queue for when driving to work. Like others said, saves me data as well to load them at home and have them on the go.

    Hello from Montreal, Qc

Welcome aboard Mitch. No doubt you've already come across Blatter and Blatter in Montreal, but if not, a wonderful shop and great pipes too.

    Pipe Smoking in WW1

Definitely going to settle in with a pipe this afternoon and start this series. The first few minutes reminded me of a video recently done by a company from Halifax which features a pipe smoker in it. The man in this video below is mentioned at the 1:25 mark of the Apocalypse World War I...

    Hi from down Under

Hey Smitty. Welcome from Canada. Heading to your part of the world this summer. Sydney and Cairns. I know taxes are restrictive much like Canada, but are there any shops worth visiting while there?

Leaving Some Tobacco for the Pipe Gods

Interesting approach. Reminds me of the term for the liquid lost in a whiskey barrel while aging (i.e.: the angel's share).

Oops! My Wife Saw My Customs Invoice

The duties or tariffs are bad enough but the price to buy in Canada is just as ridiculous. (was quoted anywhere from $39-42 for a 2oz tin from stores in Ontario and Nova Scotia). To add further insult to injury, I live in New Brunswick (very rural) and tobacconists are rare if not extinct...

Oops! My Wife Saw My Customs Invoice

Barepipe, just wondering how many tins you ordered (or ounces) that got you charged the $600. I'm in NB here and recently had a package assessed so I'm looking for comparison sake. And was that all in duties or were there other fees (I assume the obligatory $10 handling fee of course).

Kid Pitched A No Hitter Tonight!

You've a right to be proud...a no-hitter is quite an achievement. Well done lawmax and son!
