Selling pipes
Don't be surprised to see a couple of FDA inspectors to show up and inspect your tobacco product manufacturing facility (pipe shop). There was a forum post about Jeff Gracik enduring a half day inspection. From what I understand, companies like Smoking Pipes .com handle the process with the FDA...- zack24

A dry cough from pipe smoking?
Everyone has a different level of smoking they can tolerate- for me, it's a bowl a week. Any more and the chest feels a little tight and my cycling speed takes a hit. Persistent coughs are no good- I had a mildly nagging one for a year, thought it was smoking, allergies, dust in the shop...- zack24

Why Are Freehand Stems Partially Inserted?
That was back in the good old days when pipe makers could buy a premade acrylic stem for $3 instead of spending hours making a stem from rod stock....I've never liked the tenon sticking out of the mortise look...and I actually like making stems....:)- zack24

Mortise Tight/Sticky After Cleaning
If the whiskey was 70 proof, that's 35% alcohol and 65% water. Mortise soaked up the water and swelled slightly when you left it to dry overnight. Using hot water on the mortise made the problem worse. It's not a great idea to ever leave a stem and pipe separated. Fixing it correctly is tough...- zack24

A few years ago, Gibson Guitar in Nashville was raided by Fish & Wildlife Service for a violation of the Lacey Act because they dared to import rosewood to make fingerboards instead of having the fingerboards manufactured overseas...- zack24

Briar Cigar in a Cigar Lounge
Greta and I walked into a cigar bar that also served wine- their reason was they were afraid the pipe smoke would ghost their cigars. They got an eye roll, sold one glass of crappy wine to each of us...and we ghosted them- never to set foot in the place again.- zack24

Loose Stem Repair Option
Along those same lines- but with much less risk- is using a paint brush dipped in boiling water on the inside of the mortise- let it dry, you'll have some internal expansion of the mortise....But as George mentioned- it's a bandaid....- zack24

Yep- I have good dust control, but the left lung is still functioning at 80%....Taking no chances until it's back to normal.... (the problem wasn't all the things you would expect- it was inhaling a tiny steakbone maybe 10 months ago creating an empyema...) This respirator works really well....- zack24

After spending the past 10 weeks in recovery from my illness, lung surgery, and other assorted good times, I finally felt like getting back to the shop. My victim for this session was really a challenge- It was what I guess to be a late 1800's Meer with a fragment of the amber stem and bone...- zack24
