    Artisan Pipemakers

I would add Bruce Weaver and Rad Davis to your list for consideration.

    Savinelli Series III Natural Pipes

I bought one years ago. It was not only unfinished but not fit to be finished. One side of it had a huge flaw that was filled in. Many other spots also filled. It also was not drilled all that good. Very tight. To me it was a sold off rather than burned. Of course the ones now offered may be...

Bottom of the bowl & tongue bite

If it tastes like crap, it's gone. I have very few pipe, tobacco combinations that give me decent flavor down at the bottom of the bowl.

    Openness And Modification

I agree with xrundog. I will not modify an artisan pipe in any way, but a factory pipe is another thing. Having said that, I look at my rack of hand made pipes and don't think that any of them would have needed to be opened in the first place.

    How to store a pipe?

Did you clean the pipe or your house? Make sure you clean the pipe including wiping the inside of the bowl. I can smell the pipes in my rack when I am right next to them but not from a few feet away and they have never stunk up my entire house.

    Butz Choquin pipe stem issue

Use the micro-mesh pads as suggested but I have a feeling the stem will end up being one that turns at the sight of you lips so give it some good protection after it is smooth and black. Some Paragon wax, Obsidian oil or some plain old olive oil.

    Pipe Tastes Flat, No Flavor

Some pipes can be flavor-sucking duds.

What makes a bad-smoking pipe a bad smoking pipe?

If you can figure this out you can sell your solution to pipe makers throughout the world. When I say a bad smoking pipe, I am talking about a pipe that tastes bad or smokes hot as a blow torch no matter what you do. To me this is a wood problem and you can't fix bad wood.

    Should I Return This Pipe

I have a Dracula and it is the same. It is not a great smoker but I don't notice and gurgle from the gap.

    Flake Tobacco: Preparing and Drying

I rub out about half a tin on a sheet of paper, let it dry out some then put it into an empty tin and I am ready to go.

    Pipe stem too tight

I use wax on stems that are a tad loose. If a stem dos not go on smooth I rub on a little soap.

    Choice Of Lighter

The charring light is the only problem I have with a Zippo so I use Bic or an Old Boy for that then go on to the Zippo. You can get some pretty fancy looking Zippo cases to upgrade to.

Anyone have an Oscar Lucite by Savinelli?

Pipe is stamped 824KS. The trunk show was at Leaf & Ale in Knoxville when they were sill around and it was years ago.

Anyone have an Oscar Lucite by Savinelli?

I have an 824 KS. It's a beautiful pipe. I got it at a trunk show years go. The Savinelli rep hand picked the pipes that he brought. This one had zero fills and a nice grain. I have 10 Savs and this one is the worse smoker. Smokes a little hot and wet.

Common Pipe Flaws: What Makes a Bad Pipe?

Bad pipes I have owned: Several that smoked hot no matter what tobacco, how it's packed or how slow it is smoked. A wood problem in my mind. One that tasted harsh with a weird after taste even after trying to smoke my way out of it for 2 years. Again, the wood.
