What is Your Favorite 'Drug Store' Brand Pipe?

My favorite "drugstore" pipe is the Kaywoodie (minus the stinger). I began many years ago with a Kaywoodie and some Amphora tobacco. I was about 18 at the time and will be 80 this month, so you can tell KW has had a pretty good run. Sorry, boys and girls, but you lost this old duffer when...

Comoy's - Did Many Have Stingers?

The responses here are a bit strange to me. As I said in another thread, I like Comoy pipes and have several, but I have never run into one with a stinger. In the U.S. the Kaywoodie made the stinger famous. They all had stingers of one type or another. I always remove the stinger from the...

    Considering Price--Comoy.

I like British pipes of just about any ilk, but considering price versus overall design, draw, and carvers who take pride in their work, Comoy has always lived up to my expectations. Most of their pipes are "traditional" shapes, nothing fancy or "artistic", but that is OK with me. I am...

    Just Ordered from Briar Blues

Congratulations! I have several pipes from Mike and I can vouch for his honesty and knowledge. All his pipes are "top-knotch" and he will even tell you if anything he has to offer has some kind of problem. He even advised me to not buy a pipe from him because it had a hidden problem. Nuff said.

    The Pipe Smoker's Ephemeris

I have both bound volumes (I & II) containing about 30 years of the publication. The volumes are exact printings of each issue and are sometimes hard to read because they contain strikeovers, crossouts, etc. I am slowly making my way through them with a magnifying glass. Very interesting...

    High End Pipes vs Artisans.

There is an "old saying" that you "get what you pay for" and I have generally found it true. You have to consider what your purchase is for: is it for show, the pride of possession, actually smoking, investment, or whatever? Price is always determined by scarcity (what is available versus...

    Best Estate Pipe Find

A 1958 "cutty/horn" by Sixten Ivarsson (theMaster). From "Briar Blues" and we won't talk about price. These pipes are almost never available.

    Tobacco Advice Request

I know it is not very "sophisticated", but neither is Half and Half. I recommend you at least try a bowl of Sir Walter(SWR). My favorite for over 50 years.

The Tobacco You Reach For Without Thinking

Sir Walter for about 60 years. Still haven't found anything I rather smoke. Common man, common tastes I spect.

Pipe Smoking Study, It Doesn't Look Good.

I will be 80 in November (if I'm lucky) and have smoked a pipe for almost 60 of those years. Wonder how old I would be if I hadn't smoked? Longevity and general likelihood of most diseases is gene related. "Luck of the draw". It is too late for me to change my ways now-even if I wanted to.

    How Many Pipe Smokers?

I was thinking about this yesterday. In an age when (supposedly) fewer and fewer folks are smoking (or being forced to hide while they do so) there seems to be an awfully lot of pipes being produced around the world. More tobacco too. Admittedly at higher prices. New and higher taxes do not...

What Are You UK Folks Doing Over There !?

I was stationed in England with the USAF during the 1964-1967 timeframe and it was wonderful!! I lived in a small town called Ampthill, Beds (Bedfordshire). I learned most of what I know of pipes and pipe smoking while there. There was a "tobacconist" in almost every village and you could (of...

    B&M Tobacconist Websites

Could I get some Local tobacco vendors' web addresses from those of you who have a favorite that sells on-line? I once had a bunch of them that would do custom blending, but it appears that over time I have misplaced them. Thanks for any help you might give me.

Attn Newbies - If I Had It To Do Over Again.

As usual, with a group as large and varied as this forum, there are going to be disagreements. I fail to see the obvious love of corncobs. Next someone will recommend smoking grapevine. I would never recommend to a new pipe smoker (or anyone else for that matter) the use of a "Gen McArthur"...
