Food Dehydrator For Drying Moist Tobacco?

On further thought, getting a food dehydrator just for the purpose of drying out some overly moist baccy seems like overkill...Let me start a more appropriate discussion on ways to accelerate drying out moist baccy.

Food Dehydrator For Drying Moist Tobacco?

More and more I'm reading how some tobaccos that are moist out of the pouch, need time to sit in the open air overnight to dry out so the proper flavor can come out (or at least to minimize the goopiness that can occur at the bottom of the bowl, and ruin the flavor, when the tobacco is too...

Another Happy Alden (AKA Lonestar) Pipe Owner!

Thank you everyone. Ryan even mentioned some family health issues and still got my pipe to me in a timely manner...Much respect for that. mrenglish, I'm going to smoke anything and everything in this beauty!...I'm not so much a connoisseur yet as to keeping my pipes to specific types of...

Another Happy Alden (AKA Lonestar) Pipe Owner!

As some of you may recall, I didn't get a good outcome on a previous commissioned pipe (and it was my first comm too). I had pretty much given up on the idea but at the reassurance of a fellow member and his high praise of Ryan Alden's pipes, I decided to give it a 2nd chance and contacted Ryan...

    Small Pipes

Small pipes are great. They're easy to carry, great for when you only have a short time to smoke (like on smoke-breaks, or when it's cold outside) and they don't take up as much space for storing.

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

thank you for the clarifications. I wanted to make completely sure I have the proper understanding of the process and set my expectations accordingly. All my pipes thus far, even my cheapest Dr. Grabow that cost me only like $10, are all even and smooth (I know they must've had fills) and every...

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

Sorry if I was unclear, I know the wood itself has the imperfections, but after several applications of clearcoat and sanding, clearcoat and sanding, repeat...Shouldn't the pipe be smooth at that point (again, even though the imperfections are on the underlying wood)?? For instance, look at the...

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

The toolmark turns out to be his trademark/signature stamp. I keep going back and looking at the pits/inclusions (particularly on the bottom). I mean, I KNOW that at my price range such imperfections should be expected on the bare wood itself...BUT, once the stain is applied and then the...

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

Yeah, this is the pipe before the stain, that's how I know there was actually a band.

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

Thanks for the inputs. rsuninv, on the pipes you've had made, do the pits still show through in the finished pipe? Maybe I've just had the wrong impression, that even when there are imperfections, once it's stained, polished and clear-coated...The surface should be smooth.

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

I commissioned this pipe for $150. After discussing my concerns though, he offered to knock off $25.

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

Apologies for not being clearer (I've updated original post). I was sent the pictures of the finalized pipe, I have not paid any money (not even deposit) on the pipe as of yet. This was actually the 2nd attempt for making this pipe. The 1st had a pretty nasty inclusion on the bottom (to which I...

    Commissioned Pipe, Expect Inclusions/Pockmarks?

I've recently commissioned my first pipe and am a bit unsure about the current state of work and whether I'm expecting too much. Here is a photoshop'ed image I sent of what I wanted (A Dunhill 2205, with more of a Dublin taper on the bowl and a redheart/bloodwood band). And here are pictures...
