    I'm Back, MSO 489

After a few months in hospital and rehab, related to repair of a mitral valve and complications from respiratory and gastrointestinal problems, I'm back at the keyboard, at least for Forums. I'm still off email for reasons unknown, hundreds of messages waiting. Sorry to be a "ghost" for so...

    Ten Minute Tiny Pipes

And for a little longer smoke in your small pipe, just select one of the more solid cuts...flake, plug, coin or rope.

A New Shape... The Bent Canadian

It has a nice languorous arch to it. I bet someone here knows its maker.

    Being Honest.

There's a big difference between tact and dishonesty.

Still Haunted by my Early Days of Pipe-Smoking...

The blends in big jars are usually standard brands re-named to bring you back to that shop. It could have been Lane, Sutliff, etc. Years ago, some shops did blend their own specialties, so it could be something unique.

    Bob’s Chocolate Flake

I love chocolate, but as a candy. I'd try the blend; I might be surprised.

Well I Think Someone Likes The Smell Of My Pipe

Some people consider smoking a private matter. I once saw an older guy smoking a pipe in the grocery parking lot and asked him what he was smoking, and he walked away fast and called "Prince Albert" over his shoulder.

    This Year's Crystal Skull

How is the stone worked? Hammer and chisel, power rotary tool? They look anatomically exact and finished to the nth degree.

Regarding the Coloring of Algerian Briar

Iwan Ries used to source its house pipes from the Edwards Benton line made from oil cured Algerian briar, pretty nice, and moderately priced. I own three and they have held up exceedingly well and smoke great. But I have not found that they color differently from other briar. They just look...

    Legendary Tobaccos Availability?

Some discontinued blends were excellent. McCellands blends were sourced from specific regions and years. My favorite was Frog Morton Cellar. But I agree with Warren that availability scores high points with me. Depending on your tastes you can usually find a blend or blends that are just...

    Who Made These Pipes?

Expertise on Forums always amazes me, especially on the first post after the original.

On the Economical Operation of Light Bulbs

The color tones of different light bulbs can make a room look inviting or awful. Some "daylight" bulbs are cold as ice in effect, whereas others are sunny and pleasing. I'd sample a particular brand of bulb before buying in quantity, just like pipe tobacco blends.

    Burley blends

I'm a burley devotee, having been born into the scent of my dad's Granger, always from a pouch. I like so many burley based blends and blends with burley as a condiment. Two that come to mind are Petersons Irish Flake and 3-P.. C&D has played a major role in raising burley from an inexpensive...

Is Customer Service a Thing of the Past?

We're trying to get AT&T to take an interest in repairing our landline phone. So far, no luck. We have cell phones, for back-up, but most people know only the landline number. But the bills keep coming.

On the Economical Operation of Light Bulbs

I think shopping for light bulbs has become esoteric. Do you go for low cost, longevity, the color of the light given off which can make a room look inviting or awful, and so on. Little guidance is offered at retail stores, and most of us proceed by trial and error, with lots of errors. You...
