    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

Forgetting for a moment that all the points you made had already been offered and discussed (I take it you never had a reading class?), it's interesting you feel it necessary to answer a genuine question, asked in a Beginner's Forum, with snark and sarcasm. But hey man, you do you. Cheers.

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

LOL. Fair. But it does sort of speak to the idea that actively pushing something through the nose is not required to fully taste it, as it would be both exceptionally painful and terribly disgusting.

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

I agree with everything you just wrote. What I'm trying to appreciate is, why is this standard process of tasting, as you just described it, sufficient for food, wines and spirits, but yet tobacco needs to be retrohaled to be fully appreciated (as some would suggest)? To further clarify, I'm...

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

100%. I'm not looking to do what others have done or follow anything blindly. I'm 50 years old and quite confident in who I am. I'm merely curious, so I'm asking the question. Cheers.

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

That's an interesting way to think about it. Two follow-up questions Wouldn't you get all of those aromas through the internal connection between mouth and nose, without the deliberate action of retrohaling? Wouldn't you also get those aromas on the exhale? Thanks again. On this point, I'm...

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

Thank you for the reply. And on this point, I completely agree. But isn't the smell of the pipe also right in front of you... especially if you clench? And to that end, the pipe's aroma is even more present, as you don't hold a fork full of food under your nose indefinitely. That feels like...

    Suspicious of Retrohaling...

This topic comes up often among cigar smokers, and not surprisingly I'm seeing it popping up in the pipe world. What I find odd is, every discussion about retrohaling's benefits begins by talking about how we "taste with our nose" and how "you can't taste anything if you hold your nose closed"...

    Why No Swirl Love?

It's not a matter of what others think. To your point, that matters not at all to me. I was merely curious as to why it's not recommended to new pipe smokers, when it seems to be the easiest method. You wouldn't happen to live in the greater Philadelphia area by chance? This is definitely...

    Why No Swirl Love?

Honestly, I have no clue. I've tried every other method, dozens and dozens of times. Which I appreciate, in the big scheme of things, is still squarely in newb territory. None of those methods seem to work as consistently as using the swirl method. Wish I knew why.

    Why No Swirl Love?

This is now my third foray into pipe smoking. The past two flamed out (awful pun intended). I subsequently sold off my acquired pipes and tobaccos and returned to cigars. This third go round came with a renewed vigor and stubbornness and has been far more successful and I intend to stick with...

What's a Pipe That "Smokes Good"?

I'm definitely sticking with it. And for the record, seem to have more success with cobs than briars. Not sure what that's about, but I'm sure I'll figure it out at some point.

What's a Pipe That "Smokes Good"?

As a new pipe smoker who was looking forward to eventually procuring a pipe in which every bowl stayed lit and burned cool, I find this thread very upsetting.

    Is Jarring a One-Time Thing?

Good to know. Thanks. I thought they might be, but I also thought, "How many ways are there for tobacco leaf to age?" :ROFLMAO:

    Is Jarring a One-Time Thing?

Allow me to push back on this a bit. People age cigars in humidors they open regularly. So it seems to surprising to me that cracking a jar once, for a few seconds, would stunt the aging process in any discernible way. Mind you, I can't speak from experience where aged pipe tobaccos are...

About To Give Up On Non Aromatics

    That makes complete sense.
